B'oness is on the shore of the Firth of Forth but the line turns inland and joins the Edinburgh - Glasgow main line.

The 2008 version with Rupert Penry Jones did indeed feature Morayshire, I have it on dvd. It is an excellent version, however IIRC some MK1 coaches make an appearance, slightly spoling the wartime authenticity!

It's set in or leading up to WW1 IIRC so even the D49 is out of period if nitpicking is the order of the day. :)

The Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway is situated on the shore of the Firth Of Forth and about 40 mins from Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is a mainline connection at Manuel Junction with the Edinburgh and Glasgow Mainline. I'm sure the D49 was chartered for 39 steps, even if a little out of place with the Caledonian set!
Morayshire's next scheduled duties are not till the 2013 season but if you fancy a lot of Scottish Steam why not visit for the steam Gala on the 19[SUP]th[/SUP] and 20[SUP]th[/SUP] October? The railway was also recently involved in filming for the upcoming block-buster “The Railway Man”.

Absolutely right, although amusingly the interior shots are from the B&KR's Caley set!

The original Robert Donat version has been trimmed in places, notably the stop on the Forth Bridge where shots taken at the bottom of the cab footsteps involving the engine crew with the bulk of the bridge looming were missing.

Steam on 35mm 3 &4 from Video 125 has the film shot but not used at Waverley and the Forth Bridge for the Kenneth More version, really excellent, including a glimpse of the BBC's Dr Finlay, Bill Simpson. By the way, I wouldn't bother reading the book, it's not as good as any of the films and there isn't a female character in it at all...

All the sequels in the Richard Hannay series feature female characters though, if that's your thing. I love the Hannay series - I find the original book a lot better than any of the films, which all differ widely from the original book. The closest to the book was the 1970's Robert Powell version but even that had a very different ending

The accuracy of the 2008 version is horrendous - apart from the railway bits, the cars were all 1920's at the earliest, Hannay's flat 1930s art deco, and the aeroplane was a 7/8 or 3/4 (can't remember which) replica of an aircraft not introduced into service until 1917 - the whole point of the monoplane in the original book is that it's civilian and therefore not obviously hunting for someone, a military marked biplane shooting up someone rather gives the game away though, and then parking it outside your lair!
