In conjunction with the January Steam gala we are pleased to announce that there will be a photographic evening in the shed yard on the Friday evening. We will start at 1845 hours and finish at 2100hrs prompt so please arrive from 1830hrs onwards.

The shoot will be based around 2 engines with 34046 Braunton and Std tank 80080 to recreate a small southern shed scenario. the cost of this event will be £15.00 as per previous night shoots.

Obviously we will be spending quite some time with Braunton and we will light it front 3qtr and then we will move the lights to the rear and backlight it for some nice glints and something different.

If anyone has any queries please feel free to email me at elrnumber1@gmail.com No pre booking is required

Also as per previous galas the 3p20 parcels group in conjunction with the elr will be running freight runpasts at Burrs on both the Saturday and Sunday morning with an 0800hrs start.

The loco for both days will be the g2/super d on a mixed freight and a donation of £10.00 per day per photographer is requested . As far as I know the super d is in the last 12 months of its ticket and as of yet we have not had a shot of it in sun on a freight on the elr.

I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard behind the scenes so to speak to make this gala and these associated photographic events happen. A lot goes into it.

Can I just reiterate any queries regarding these photographic events please email me directly at elrnumber1@gmail.com, it comes direct to my phone and it is the qickest way I can get back to any individual queries.

Regards and thanks to you all for your support.

Thanks for confirming the early morning runpast for the Gala. Will try & make it this time round as I missed the one in October with the B1.

But when you say Braunton will be doing a private charter all day. Will this mean that the public won't be able to travel behind her??

Sorry Jeff I should have clarified . In the past certain locomotives have not run on the early morning runpasts as they have been used on a full day private charter with a freight. Some would assume that this is the reason Braunton is not on these runpasts and I have had to take some stick for want of a better turn of phrase for this.

Some would want Braunton for the early morning runpasts but it is not on them due to operational resons. I hope this clarifies it for you and can assure you and all Braunton is NOT operating any private charters and will be available for all passengers at the gala.

Oh thank god. I thought for a second that I wouldn't be able to travel behind another Bullied Pacific. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

    Early morning runpasts update.

I am pleased to announce that the early morning runpasts will consist of the Superd/g2 at the front and then approximately 20 vehicles with, wait for it .....................

The Jinty at the back banking it.

This is going to be a long freight and will consist of the normal mixed freight/parcles at the front end , with a brake van in the middle and then the engineers train behind that with a further brake van at the end.

This would have been typical of a mixed freight where a loco would have set of with one consist and picked up another one on the way, hence brake van in the middle. Not only is this quite a large consist in respect of the number of the vehicles but it will also be long due to some of the engineering vehicles, low wells etc.

All vehicles in the consist will be typical of the 1950s/1960s.

In lengh wise it could be the physically longest freight train we have ever run.

Please be at Burrs for 0745 for an 8am start, members of the 3920 parcles group will be at the stile to collect your donations and we hope all will contribute the requested donation of £10.00.

Looking forward to the charter! Does anyone know if a freight will run throughout the day?

    Thanks,
    Lewis

I'll be staying Sat night in Ramsbottom so will try to arrange an early Sunday taxi to take me to Burrs. I've never strayed from the line so I'd appreciate some more detailed instructions on the meeting place, and also the best instructions to give to the taxi driver. I'd then be looking to scrounge a lift back to an ELR station!

Looking forward to it, even if I don't make it to the runpasts. Unfortunately I can't make the Friday night shoot, got a software upgrade to do :(

Tell the taxi driver to go to Burrs Country Park, Bury and drop you at the Brown Cow Pub, this is at the very end of the road. Walk down the path across the front of the pub until a fork to the left leading the the railway crossing, this is where it all happens. Hope this helps.

On the unofficial east lancs railway forum, 62005 will not make it to the the January gala 2013 and will attend the February steam gala 2013. The February gala will also have 2, possibly 3, additional visitors to the event that will later be confirmed on the website which is fantastic! And an early confirmation for the October steam gala 2013 with 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland" will be visiting. 3 fantastic Steam Galas for 2013! :becky:

... The usual one then? Can't help wondering why gala timetables tend to appear so late in the day these days, when they're the same basic formula each time?

    (Not specific to the ELR!)
