The owners obviously think so and as it's their engine I would suggest they know best! Just to add to Matt's info above the King works the 14:30 ex Loughborough on Sunday rather than the 13:45 but all other times are as above. The main difference between the two days is the addition of the evening twilight runs on the Saturday so you'll have 43 departures from Loughborough against 35 on Sunday if all goes to plan *fingers crossed etc*.

Look forward to seeing lots of you over the weekend hopefully :) If it goes pear shaped tomorrow I'll be the one looking stressed out and I've got the easy day!!

Completely daft to be running it in at a gala when it's only just returned from a steam test, although you can kid yourself from a photograph that it's doing any speed...

have to agree it doesnt fill me with confidence in the king making it through the weekend, its a king not a pannier, if they dont have the confidence in it to let it do a tpo which isnt particularly hard work for a loco of that size should it really be booked to run at all?

Yes, most are just on lanes, so parking at the roadside should not be a problem. Parking is also available at Quorn Station.

With the past history in mind and i'm sure all fingers well and truly crossed in the 6023 camp, the locomotive will need to be treated very lightly, running-in is the most stressful time but essential and I for one would sooner see the engine run-in as it should be and not unduly pushed. We are all aware of the capabilities of this 4-6-0 but once all is well then we can see the true colours of a king, (hopefully not blue for too long!). Good luck to all 6023.

Any idea if 3803 will do a TPO run on the Sunday?

Andy J: I suppose it is down to how 6023 is handled over this weekend. Running in on local trains was how the main works, eg Swindon and Crewe, did it with passenger engines, so perhaps with careful handling, gentle starts and stops, very even firing etc it should be ok.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't there some video around when 6023 first steamed, I think it was from Norfolk rather than Didcot, of some "dramatic starts", ie the loco being given a lot of welly from a standing start? Not the way to do it IMHO.
Treat it gently, no pyrotechnics for the linesiders, nurse it along, and hopefully the boiler will bed in properly.

Each to their own and why not, just glad to see inside the cab is brunswick awaiting the exterior to become the proper colour....... aesthetics aside wish I could have the time to peep over the hedge but from Simon's image all seems well.

What are the current views on the embankment at Rothley being use by non pass holders? There are always quite a few of the GP there... Is it just acceptable, like going up the bank a bit at Washford on the WSR, or a no-go?

I just hope the weather is not going to spoil it for those of us whom are travelling or trying to travel to the GCR tomorrow morning.
