Many thanks for the positive words and here is my footage of the return leg in rather different conditions at Birkett Tunnel and Mallerstang.

    Hope you enjoy.

A personal view so please don't let this start a debate ......so IMHO Riley's 5's are better maintained and set up.

    Agreed.

By the way, what were the roads like? Were they as bad as Radio Cumbria predicted?

They weren't too bad IMO. Mostly slush on the roads that weren't totally clear. The Tommy Rd looked a bit risky, but the un-driveable minor roads were fairly few and far between.

Wonderful videos Phil and Stephen, thanks for sharing them. :thumb:

Interesting journey over the A66 this morning :smow: must get some new tyres!!!

Ian Rileys "bunch of fives" were as impressive as ever and I caught them on the outward leg near TEBAY where the wind spoiled things, (still it hid the box on the back)!

and then later in the day on the return run at CULGAITH

Unlucky with the wind Tony, but the light on the subject and the darkness of the fells behind is very effective.

Thanks for that. Innit marvellous! After a doom and gloom weather forecast, icy roads, dull and cold, I decide
to stay at home and have a lie in. What happens? I get out of bed, look out of the window, wall to wall
sunshine, temperature gone up by 10 degrees, the snow has b******d off (well, round here anyway) and the
CME is well on it's way to Carlisle!

Absolutely brilliant videos and stills from today. More than made up for not being able to go myself. Thanks for sharing and well done for braving the conditions.

Judging by the lack of steam leaks from the coaches, 47854 was presumably providing ETH so taking it off on a day like this might not have been too popular with those on board!

Indeed I did, Phil! Lovely stuff. Even better conditions than last year, and suberbly captured.

That's the way to do it! I especially like the shot at Cotehill. There can't be many places with a full set of telegraph poles still standing.
