44871 seems to be the engine of choice to lead these day. This might be one of the best runs over Shap + S&C this year.
It shall be interesting whether the A4 or the 5 this coming Saturday. That 86259 is a darn cool engine as well.

 

Thanks Phil, nice to meet, if only briefly. I see you made it upto Shap Wells, cracking shot. I wish i had taken the vid as well, you could hear it at Docker for about 5 mins before we could see it.

Incidentally, it seems from the times for the next few runs that water is not taken again after Appleby. It's quite a distance to Farington Jcn. from there, especially considering that Green Arrow ran out of water in Dentdale when trying to reach Garsdale from Preston once.

 

Fantastic photos and videos by everybody. Really gutted I don't live in the North West anymore otherwise I'd have been out there too!

 

And..........I've just noticed there is an excellent bit of footplate footage of 44871 on Youtube......being a computer dummy I can't seem to download it.......by hell though that loco sounds like a swiss watch..............

 

I'd place my bet on it being 60009 this w/e considering a move for her from York to Carnforth on Thursday has popped up on UKS

If you go into the cameraman's YouTube a/c there's about a dozen clips of this run. Can you identify the driver - he doesn't sit down once on the clips I watched, total concentration on the road ahead.

 

Your right, a real credit to Ian Riley and his support teams.

 

Driver is the master Gordon Hodgson .

 

Should have spotted that - a fine example to us lesser mortals.

 

Stuart on the footplate ( pistonvalve ) filming gave Rob Hawkins as the fireman on the return with Mr Hodgson driving as mentioned early doors .

 

It looked a bit crowded in 45407!
