You made some fairly strong hints on here and on Flickr and how do you know he didn't say anything?

So it's all right to stand on someones' wall and I presume all observe the courtesy of asking the landowners permission to access their land - 'en mass' at some spots. Selective angst, methinks!

There's a few new faces in this thread, welcome.

trespass... It's a bigger "issue" on the UK's railways than any other country worldwide, it's reason I can only think, is due to the demise of an MP in 1829... Had it been a "normal" our history may have been very different and more like the rest of the world.
    .
Not so long ago a photographer achieved world fame for just missing a DMU with his back to it watching 70013... Yet he was "right side" of the fence as I recall, standing on the platform.

whilst they may have "trespassed".. Both on the NR side of the fence, and the owner of the land adjacent to it, In order to get there.. I wouldn't consider there location as "dangerous".. One doesn't imply the other.

At some point everyone has been guilty of trespass somewhere in the world, lets not put ourselves in glass houses, but lets do ensure safety is promoted.

I cannot imagine danger being the immediate concern in reality, rather their impaired view of proceedings, if truth be told.

Thank you for attempting to restore my confidence, I will be setting off on Thursday morning for a two day recce for suitable locations for Saturday. I've got my 2 nights B&B booked in Oxenholme so I don't have to make so many trips up and down the M6.
I think I will need to find at least 6 locations so that, depending on the wind direction and whether or not there is going to the sun factor to contend with, I will know exactly where to go. I have already obtained some cones and Road Closed signs in case I find it necessary to stop traffic to avoid the noise problem.

James, thank you for that tip, fortunately my video camera displays on the screen and in the viewfinder the image through the lens, so unless it is very dark there is not a lot of chance of leaving it on.

By the way what happend to the class of diesel I have heard referred to as "Ronnies"

    Ralph.

Would like to make my point clear as I was filming and captured people lineside on my second camera that I perhaps could not have used in my video but why should I as at the end of the day these guys were breaking the law " FACT ". If folk dont like that then that is up to them . Steve

I remember the 4472 run through Newark very well and those scenes will never ever be repeated in this day and age.I recall that day in my 'railway cameraman' page David Hey's Collection - 74 - RAIL CAMERAMAN S LATHLANE I don't think any of the photographers on the wrong side knew they were being filmed, correct me if I'm wrong Stephen but I think you position a second camera to the wall to get that going away shot. There is only one photographer in the shot who stayed on the right side even the chap on the wall then stood down inside the wall. So Neil was the photographer on the right side so my hats off to him for his sensible approach to getting the 'master shot' Any form of trespass is bad news for our hobby and will give those that wish to see it taken off the national network ammunition they require. I know people get very tired about this subject so this is my last post on the matter.

I wish people would just stop bleating about "trespass". It will make no difference to the photographers concerned. It will make no difference to the attitude towards steam excursions of the busmen running our railways.

Thanks for the comment but the guys must have seen me twice turn my camera round and film them at least once as I made a point of waving at them as if too say I have got you . Saying that I had a similar shot from the same location 12 months ago of a well known photographers son lineside at S green whos photo appeared in Steam Railway magazine . Sent them a side on photo of him but nothing back so we are never going to stop lineside shots if others dont condone it
