The Wansbeck tour over Easter as well, of course. This has had the Whitby run pulled in the last few weeks which is a bit disappointing but still lots of minor lines I've not done and still interesting operationally.

Yes indeed. The loss of Whitby was disappointing, but tbh not unexpected, as it did look a bit ambitious, even with the loco at each end to minimise reversal times etc. I suspect that pathing was the major problem there. Still looking forward to it, although my party do feel that 2 hours in Whitby would have been better than 2 hours in Saltburn...

2 hours in Wakefield would be better than Saltburn.......and that's really saying something!

Probably agree with the first half because the Hepworth is a fabulous place to visit even if like me you know nothing about sculpture and still leaves enough time to wonder at the most dilapidated station in Britain. But on a nice day a walk from Saltburn up the cliff path in the Boulby direction is quite pleasant. However, if it's raining......

....if it's raining you probably still go. Or, if it's open, the cricket and bowls club in Marske Mill Lane. Not been there but lets in visitors for a pint which could be anything really.

By the looks of things, it is rerouted via Bristol TM (34046 to detach at Bristol).

d/h steam all the way on the outward journey but from Euston rather than Paddington. D/h steam back to Bristol on the return then diesel back to Paddington (yes, returns to Paddington) There is insufficient time to water two locos and have steam all the way from London to Plymouth and back. Only Tornado and Bittern with its second tender can manage this.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will wait to see what RTC confirm before booking it.

Well, I suppose you could call the British legs of the May Golden Arrow a day trip but it's postponed yet again due to the French making a meal of the overhaul on the tender.

    RTC update

Mayflower. Tba loco now 44932. (Not34046) together with 34067. 44932 will be added at EXETER.
More details later - this is to confirm the second loco. Still looks like a good tour and has 2 locos for the Devon banks.

    Sat mar 9 Cotswolds 34067

some NP members will have received a £20 discount offer for new bookings,by email. I think the code to quote was CVD
there are 30 seats left and Nigel is happy to offer this discount to fill the last few seats to readers of this forum.please say you read this On the forum if you ring the office as Nigel only agreed tonight!! Or book online. Discounts can be contentious but it's better to sometimes offer a bargain price on a few seats than let them be empty or indeed cancel the train!
the itinerary looks good. Only 10yrs ago Euston was v rare and Oxford to Worcester almost impossible.......

    Best wishes RAY MASON

Quite likely to have been an authentic combination on the Southern in 1966/67 when some Black Fives came south, probably on York - Bournemouth. Or trains diverted via Alton during engineering works on the main line. Or is my memory playing tricks? Anyway, both great locos.

Almost certainly a combination that would have been seen over the S&D on Summer Saturdays.

Just missed those glorious days of the Pines Express running over the S&D; yes that combination would surely have been seen.

Without looking up Ivo Peters I'll have a crafty two bob on 45440 plus 34043 on the S and D. Not sure there was much double heading on the LSWR line to Bournemouth line though.
