Ray, you seem to imply that a deisel is needed for a warm train. Hopefully not.

Point taken-my post was poor! Of course steam can keep you cosy-very! Nothing else to add,m'lord....!!

perhaps I should have simply said that the pre Xmas Santa spls were more likely to have a diesel on the back.......
I rarely if ever answer WCRC queries as JS and others read and post themselves.

i suspect later 2013 will be good for LMS locos and I feel NP members will be as excited as I am. Have already had long phone calls with Nigel in which various ideas have been floated. If they come to fruition the later part of the year could prove fertile for LMS photters and bashers ESP in Northern England. However, there are naturally many pitfalls and obstacles to be overcome.

    best wishes Ray Mason

If you are refering to the possibilities offered by the rumoured imminent return of 45699, there's a whole thread of ill-informed enthusiasts' hopeful speculation in the Steam Traction section ;-) It's good to know that tour organisers are as excited by the prospects as the rest of us.

Meanwhile, back to the current Winter CME programme. 4 down, 3 to go, and the sight of an A4 amongst the Westmoreland fells has almost become commonplace. Who'd have thought it?!

Looking forward to Saturday. Not been behind an A4 on the S&C since 60007 back in the dark ages.

    I wonder...........
As a class 7 or 8 is preferred how far is 61994 away from completion? If it is due out soon, might someone be tempted. (well folks were tempted last year)

    Pedantic point but isn't a K4 a class 6 ?, still an improvement on a 5 mind.

I do wonder if we're getting to the stage now where class 5's are too small single headed away from repeat itinery work (Jacobite, Scarborough, Shakespeare etc), certainly 44932 must be pretty near it's limit on some load/route combo's.

True, officially it is a 6mt. However it doesn't appear to fit in any given pigeon-hole. They used to cover for W.D. 8fs in '59 and possibly '60. It has covered for class 8 in preservation with no difficulty whatsoever. I'd just like to see it tested out a little bit more - selfish perhaps. Apologies for that.

In 2012, only 1 black 5 came to London (44932) and only for 2 tours.
you could say the south has become the preserve of the class7/8 because of the loads of the trains.

Personally if 62005 came round the capital it would be nice..if it brought a B1 with it.. Even better

It is in the plans, someway, somehow.
You can bet that I'm enjoying watching 60009 crush the mountains this winter.

I would reccomend some waterproofs if coming to the NW of England whatever the time of year Mike, the only way to tell the seasons is by whether there are:- no leaves on the trees (winter) they are light green (spring) mid green (summer) dark green/brown (autumn). Temperature, wind and amount of sunlight is a total guessing game, this week it has been almost shorts and T shirt weather on Tuesday and Wednesday daytimes with clear blue skies and the last two days it has been grey, overcast and 1-3C during the day with a biting easterly wind and a frosty -3 at night... :thumb:

Anyway I hope you do manage to get over and then you can contribute to the "Todays Pint" thread as no visit would be complete without trying the odd pint or three....
