    Re: LU 150 plans...

Just to follow up this post...

5521, 9466 and Met No1 (and the newly overhauled Met coach 353 + the EMU stock) are being planned for upto 50mph running between Amersham and Harrow in May.

    Should be an interesting formation of steam loco+ Sarah Siddons+ met 353 + 4tc + class 20.
passengers apparently cannot ride on met 353 during the shuttles as speed of the train will go against door locking restrictions.
it is being considered to sell seats on the Ruislip -Wembley Park-Harrow depot ecs moves...

so a higher speed GWR2-6-2 may happen not only in Poland this century.

5521 is certainly a surprise, I think we were all expecting a Maroon 57XX

How come 353 is in the formation if it cant be used in passenger service ?, likewise didn't steam on the met previously have a 20 or Sarah Siddons at one end only, so why both ?, just seems to be adding dead weight for reasons I can't fathom.

Could it be something to do with brakes?

353 is there for aesthetics (ie its LUL's little darling coach - and good it looks too)...
its not fitted with door locks, so no passengers at higher speeds.

353 is fitted with air and vacuum brakes, 5521 is too as is the 4tc and the class 20, and all and Met no1 have been tested at higher than normal preserved running speeds.

the milk van was used as a tool van during the underground running trips.

My apologies if this has been mentioned before!

Does anyone know what kind of tickets will be on sale for the May Harrow-Amersham runs, and at what prices? Also I've seen rumours about steam specials running in September on the same stretch of line, or to Uxbridge? I'd like to go on one of them on either date.

    Cheers,

    Chris

According to Heritage Railway there will be a Maroon 55XX! 5521 is being repainted into LT livery for the event.

    :twitch:

Well I suppose authenticity is a moot point with a Prairie on the underground with a Teak 4TC and class 20, wonder what L number will be allocated.

I'll believe its a red prarire when I see it, April 1st is covered by this issue.
5521 was linked to a spoof to paint it PKP livery a few years back too... Never happened.
Reckon it will be there, but not Red.

You could be right. The picture in the latest issue shows 5521 at Didcot already in the Maroon livery. I don't think she is there at the moment.

Well no Man Utd or Arsenal (in my case a sad thing) fans going to Wembley to worry about but still will be busy depending on who's going to be in the final.

It probably won't really affect the Met much but as well as the Champions League Final the band Muse are doing a 2 concerts at the Emirates Stadium which start I think in the late afternoon on both the Saturday and Sunday

Pretty sure it's an April Fools. If not, I will hit the roof and the LTM will be getting a stroppy letter asking them what they think they're playing at. It's all very well private owners getting involved in daft liveries but not museums.

At which a receptionist will glance, think "Oh god, another trainspotter moaning about paint", and add your name to the top of a generic reply which will thank you for your time and explain that a number of considerations are taken into account when considering liveries...

Maybe so, but it will make me feel better. And in other news, I think it's time the Tower of London was rendered and painted pink.

5521 is privately owned, it doesnt belong to LTM.

This is very true. I acknowledge that a private owner may paint their loco how they please - I don't much like it but I acknowledge it. However, if LTM use 5521 in a pseudo-livery as part of their operations, they as a museum in my opinion have a far more stringent duty to historical fidelity and using a funny coloured engine would go against that duty. And no, I'm not much happy personally about their 4-CEP/VEP, but I appreciate that carriages are a far more difficult situation and pragmatism must win out.

Yes, I am a purist if you like, within the boundaries of pragmatism. I'm not ashamed of it. But this is a red herring (or is that maroon) april fools so it's all academic anyway.
