Kiwi De Havilland Mosquito KA114

Found a bit about building this Mossie.

Channel 4 tonight 8pm "The Plane that Saved Britain"...the Mosquito........

Rather a bold claim by the programme makers. If it hadn't been for the Spitfire and the Hurricane in the BoB there would probably have been no Mosquito and no Britain.

 

And not forgetting the brave crews, many of which never returned.....without them planes whatever type u/s.......

 

That goes without saying of course.

 

I have read on an Aviation website that because KA 114 wasn't built/restored under the auspices of the UK CAA it would have great difficulty getting a permit to fly here.Its virtually a new build.

I once saw 5 flying in formation while they were making 633 Squadron at Bovingdon.(Not Mosquito Squadron,that came later.)

 

So how come we see lots of aircraft built/restored overseas appear at such displays as Duxford Flying Legends?

 

I suppose there'd be a two way agreement at an international level provided you produced "suitable paperwork" as the likes of Boeing would with a new plane. What's more New Zealand is part of the Commonwealth, so I'd have thought their "regulations" would be very similar to the UK regulations too.........

 

Two Mosquitos TT35"s can be viewed at the De Havilland Heritage Museum at Salisbury Hall, London Colney close to jnc 22 on the M25.
Apart from the two mossie"s are other De Havilland Aircraft the Heron, Dove, Vampire, Sea Vixen etc and lots of other Aircraft.
Its a very underrated museum not on the scale of Duxford but well worth a day out. Or you can view it on Google under Salisbury Hall.

 

They also have the original Mosquito prototype E0234 [the original serial number] W4050, as it later became know and was used as something of a test bed for further/new engines.

 

I'd agree, an excellent museum and well worth a visit.

Also - although it is not open to visit - but wasn't Salisbury Hall Gresley's home for a while before the war?

Indeed yes the "Gresleys" lived there for a time and it has been suggested that the ducks in the pond gave Gresley the idea for the name of a certain A4 based at York though which one I'm not sure.......

 

I think we are at cross purposes here. Let's start again.

The Mossie in the TV programe belongs to Jerry Yagen and was filmed at his airfield at Virginia Beach USA.
The Mossie that was built/re-built in NZ belongs to Jerry Yagen and is now at his airfield in Virginia Beach.

Is this the same Mossie?

And IF it is, as I believe, then once again I repeat..
