What line up of locos of the same class would you like to see

With the 6 A4 coming together at York this year and all the Festiniog England loco lines up too, I just wondered what other whole class would you like to see together.

I would like to see all the terriers together although this would mean getting Waddon back from Canada, also all the GWR Manors together would be a fine sight, also what about GWR 57XX panniers or black 5s.

I would guess the biggest problem other than cost would be making sure all the locos were in one piece and presentable.

What would be your dream line up?

All the surviving Battle of Britain class in 2015 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

 

In about ten years or so, you could consider a meeting of all the BR standards (one of each class, though I guess getting fifteen 80xxx tanks together would be a sight to see!), including the three current new builds. Would probably stir ideas of a 77xxx...

Some pre1948 rakes of stock would be good to see.

Correction: Come to the SVR for rakes of carriages from railways. Go to the Bluebell or the IoW for carriages from the biggest tramway system Britain has ever known

Must say, the IofW, Bluebell, and the vintage rake on the KESR are a fine collection of stock. I think its fair to say, they cover the stock of their own region in great depth, with little representation from other regions, where as the SVR has a broader range of regions represented by its stock.

And that's just amongst those coaches available for traffic and to the public - we have a couple of LMS sleepers and an LMS Stove R brake as well.

I think we have carriages on site designed by 12 different pre-BR companies (LBSCR, LSWR, SER, LCDR, SECR, Metropolitan, GNR, LNWR, SR, LMS, CIWL, Pullman).

To give the SVR its due, their vintage complete rakes are impressive...

indeed, although LBSCR, LSWR, SER, LCDR and SECR all went in to make up the SR, hence my coment about you having a greater depth of stock from your own region than we do.

 

We can manage coaches from 5 pre-nationalisation companies, plus an SR CCT, and Wagons from many more, although the wagon fleet has a heavy GWR flavour.

 

LMS, LNER, GNR, GWR, ?? What else? Are you counting the GWR twice?

how about a line up of a train from each of the big four with approriate 1923-47 loco, plus a BR standard mk1 rake and any pre-group rake that could be assembled...that would be a great tribute to the unsung coach restorers

The SVR is short on pre-grouping stuff outside of the GW droplight collection, an area which the IoW and Bluebell excel in. I'd love to see a train of eight or even ten GW 4/6-wheelers on the valley

 

It would be nice - but also staggeringly expensive. Let's assume you held such a gala on the SVR, on the grounds they already have GW, LNER, LMS and BR mark 1 rakes. You still need to transport in say seven or eight SR carriages plus a loco. Each carriage would involve a lorry move, so that's about 10 lorry moves each way (assuming a tender engine as well). Nice to dream about, but can't see it happening short of a lottery win from an enthusiast with a particular fondness for carriages!

Something similar has been done. The NYMR/LNERCA brought in most of the SVR's teak set, the two Thompsons from Bo'ness, and the Bluebell's GNR saloon for a gala a few years ago. They also transferred a rake of NYMR based Mk.1s to the SVR for the same period to cover for the absence of the teaks.

 

Last time I looked, the KESR's operational fleet included carriages from the LNWR, the GER, and the District Railway.
