KKWVR Winter Steam Gala 2013

Just got back and I had a really good time at the gala. Weather was a little variable, very cold on Friday, very bright on Saturday and cloudy but reasonably warm on Sunday, but it neither rained nor snowed! Most impressed with 1300 and the Austerity and it was interesting to see the latter given more turns than were in the timetable on Sunday afternoon, but this was a welcome departure.

Otherwise, it was good to see some tree felling at Oakworth which opened up a completely new vista for those, like me, who don't have a lineside pass - my thanks to Ken Baker (pennysteam) who passed on the information for that. I continue to find new photo locations everytime I visit, but it would be nice if some of the linesiders would be more considerate to those who aren't so fortunate. Having said that it is also true that there are also enthusiasts who go linesiding including a few who don't even bother to wear the high viz. On this sub-thread I was standing on the footpath near to the Great Northern accommodation bridge at Keighley on Sunday when a chap, who was very much more nimble than I, just nipped over the wall. I said to another enthusiast something along the lines of 'I wonder if he knows he's trespassing' when the reply was 'I do it all the time! It's not as though it's a high speed line'. No reply was possible so I kept quiet, but it might show that the KWVR has a problem.

A good weekend, but why was there no advertisment or editorial copy in the local newspaper? The railway certainly attracted a good many enthusiasts to the event, but the locals seemed to be completely ignorant of it. Given appropriate local coverage there might have been more customers!
