Indeed, the GCR may be able to cover for 78019, but 70000 is very much in demand for mainline work, being an air braked, gauge friendly class 7, it's not like you can sub a Duchess for a trip round Kent for example.

nnr engineer, perhaps you would like to ask Mr Jones to remove his posting from heritage railways fb page which seems to quote as fact what happened. As said in the media section apparently the Brit is bent !

Given that there are reports circulating from eye witnesses which were on my phone within minutes of the instance and disclosing the damage to both loco's I'd suggest a clear statement of the current facts would be far better than asking for no speculation

Ok so eye witness reports were on the loco in question were they ? they saw exctly what happened from the drivers point of view did they, ? Engineers who are able to examine the locos in detail perhaps ?. My these eye witnesses must be extremely competent people.

Obviously they saw impact, they could not have been in full posession of all facts and all they are doing is speculating based on what they saw, an impact of two locos , end of.

The answer of course is no, that is why you wait for an official investigation to be made by the nnr , then the full facts will be known, not before not until so I completely agree with nnr engineer.

Or, you reduce the rumours by giving an outline of what actually happened...

A bent buffer beam and a compressed buffer do not occur from a light impact, 70000 had the front gussets/ supports and buffer beam renewed at the last overhaul so must have been a hard impact if it was the front end that got damaged.

The reports originated from people stood right by the engines at time of impact . damage reports are as to what they saw afterwards and cover the aforementioned damage to the buffer beam of 70000 . As to 78019 not all that was disclosed in the text has so far come out so I won't repeat . 78019 was on a charter this week which presumably may have to be cancelled plus next weekends operations with them lost

Why won't you publish them? Why shouldn't we all know about this? I do wish people would stop being so damned coy about this and other matters.

I think what some people (not necessarily all on here) fail to realise is that the NNR is still a business, and so people need to respect the fact that the NNR is a business, and information will be made public when the facts have been established and the incident has been fully investigated.

On another note having attended the Sat & Sun of the gala, I thought it was still very good considering what had happened. Wissington on the goods on Saturday was a very nice surprise, and looked absolutely sublime with the goods set!

The Duke was out for a number of weeks when it got pranged, 70000 has got worked booked quite soon.
Like NVR the other week I am sure photos if not video will appear, if not here they will somewhere.

And most businesses, when faced with rumours, release an official statement!

I attended the Gala briefly today and I have to say the communication of the NNR management to its staff is awful.

I arrived at Sherringham ~12.30 and no-one knew what was happening. We bought our tickets and went to get on the train, and were told we could not board, then another train arrived on platform 2, and we were told we couldn't board that either.
Then after they shunted things about a bit, we ended up boarding the same stock that arrived on platform 2 anyway. Only now its freezing cold and 20 minutes later.

Now as a rail enthusiast I can accept that locomotives fail (until I read this thread I had no idea of the accident, I just assumed there had been a failure), but standing passengers around for 40 minutes in the cold is not a good way to keep them happy.
Asking around the station no-one knew why the first train had been cancelled, and then no-one knew why we couldn't get on the stock in Platform 2 to keep warm(er). Talking to another passenger whilst waiting, they said that they had been told to leave 3 sets of coaching stock in total. I have never been as disheartened by being told "I don't know" as much as I was today. Someone said earlier in the thread that some people don't realise that the NNR is a business, well I do realise that, and communication is a big part of business. A part the NNR seems not to have a hold on.

I don't mean any offence to the general staff of the NNR, they do a fantastic job and are as helpful as they can be. But when things go wrong, the timetable goes out of the window, and no-one seems to know what the timetable is (this happened when the J15 failed last year too), and that's a management issue.

May I suggest a central control room and a radio system for all Guards and Drivers/Firemen (1 per footplate), I would gladly be the first person to make a donation towards it.

On a different note, happy to finally get a ride behind the J15 after it failed at the last summer gala, and finally, where was the B12?

    * A statement which addresses the same issues as the rumours.

My last post on the subject anyway, I'm clearly wasting my breath. Communication is key, though...

Will photos be of use in the investigation? If so, shouldn't they be sent to someone?

Whilst I agree that communication is key, I don't understand why people think that you can publish a statement or say this or that happened without an investigation or evidence to prove what did or didn't happen. If you take a 'gung-ho' attitude to something like this without all of the facts and evidence then where would that leave us? Like I've said previously there is an investigation going on and information will be made public, once the investigation has been completed.

In the meantime let's look forward to next weekend!
