Just a short, timely reminder of what NNR can do...

With all due respect, if you have photo's of the "aftermath" shall we say, fair enough but why even go to the trouble of writing that post and opening yourself up for criticism.

The saying of silence is golden springs to mind.......

There is a report of the incident between the Brit and std 2 on the Heritage Railway Magazine
public facebook page as pointed out in the magazine section on this forum.

I would say post your pictures so we can see for ourselves what has occurred.

70000 Britannia + Support Coach + Support Coach + 45407 with 37518 leading left Sheringham at 08.35am today bound for the ELR. Both engines in steam. At Cromer 70000 was leading engine and hauled the stock to Norwich. Enough said.

That 70000 is going to Crewe for repair? or the loco is fine but the owners won't keep it at the NNR, I thought that Britannia was due to run next week?

Think it is because she was passed fit to move but can't have anything coupled to the front, and the owners want her assessed ASAP and repairs done.

Surprised something can pass a Network Rail FTR in that state, though the non operational front drawgear shoulden't be needed to get it to Bury, I'm surprised it isn't a requirement incase of something going tits up.

Having watched it leave the NNR this morning I would hardly say it was in a state, in fact if you weren't looking for any damage you probably wouldn't even notice it. The FTR has been done by someone competent to do so and they were happy enough for it to be pulled along and to lead the consist from Cromer to at least as far as Norwich.
If 70000 failed the FTR then it would have had to leave by low loader, simple.

As for not using the drawgear, you'd have more trouble trying to shift a dead unit out of the way, the 37 and Black Five should be more that sufficient to keep things moving if something was to happen.

Now can we all please wait for the NNR to finish its investigation and to take the relevant action and for the owners to assess the damage and carry out any repairs required.
Unfortunately s**t happens, no one on this or any other forum can honestly say they have never made a mistake or made an error of judgement or had something fail on them when they were least expecting it. For the record I wasn't there so don't know exactly what happened, although from what I saw this morning some of the rumours which are flying around must have been thought up after a few too many pints had been consumed.

The NNR will deal with their side of things in the appropriate manner and the owners of 70000 and 78019 will do the same. Until any of the three make an official statement we all just have to be patient and wait, preferably whilst enjoying the next weekend of the gala in a few days time.

Sorry but if it was as minor as you suggest, it woulden't be going off to Bury to be fixed, reason I state about being surprised is because NR have much higher requirements to meet than is required for 25MPH running on preserved lines, I don't recall making a judgement about the investigation or NNR so no need to be so defensive.

It needs to be assessed before further mainline work as would be expected of any mainline loco, steam or diesel and this was the quickest way for it to get to a suitable location for this to be done.

I wasn't having a go at you personnally regarding the investigation at the NNR etc.
So many people have been far too quick to jump to conclusions and come out with all sorts of weird and wonderful things from lack of competancy to major career ending damage for 70000. I could go on but I really can't be bothered dealing with the agro it causes.

    Statement from the NNR:

With the early departure of Britannia we have secured replacement 4953 Pitchford Hall a 4.6.0 locomotive which resides at the Epping and Ongar Railway. This locomotive will be the second Hall to visit the North Norfolk following Kinlet Hall last March.

The locomotive will be operating at the second weekend of our Gala on Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th March. Following the appalling weather for the first weekend we are looking forward to seeing a possible glimpse of the sun this coming weekend.

I'm new to this forum but I live near the NNR and while out walking this morning I photographed (not very well sadly) D5631 and 78019 (in steam) double heading the LNER teak set and the pigeon van down from Weybourne yard to Sheringham; also in the yard at Weybourne was 5619, coupled to 4141 and 80072...... 2013-03-14 (9).jpg

Fair enough , i got slightly confused as i was pretty sure when it left GCR upon purchase by EOR she only had till the end of 2012. which as i understand was early to what it should have been.

I didn't see why it would take an awful lot if anything to bring it back to service, cant see much more than a full retube and odd bits and bobs for a new 10 year ticket would be needed
