No.78019 gets a bump at the North Norfolk

BR Standard 2MT No.78019 suffered a bump from big sister No.70000 “Britannia” while on a spring visit to the North Norfolk Railway.

On 9th March, 2013 No.78019 was already stationary on its train when No.70000 reversed to couple up and provide a double header. Unfortunately there was low speed bump which damaged the Britannia and did some damage to the tender of No.78019. Although not thought to be too serious the two locomotives were immediately withdrawn from service to allow a full examination to take place.

Poor old 78019 was about to enjoy a trip to the seaside but will now need some repairs.

No.78019 is expected to return to the GCR late on Friday 15th March, 2013 when an assessment of the damage will begin.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see why you feel the need to distance yourself from the words used by whoever wrote that statement.
It looks like it was written by a junior hack on loan from the CBBC! It's not even factually correct, as 70000 was not "reversing to couple up", it was being driven in forward gear.

I'd say it's about on a par with every diesel gala being advertised as "an opportunity to clock up some miles behind the fleet", or the film-themed advertising videos (which thankfully seem to have stopped!). Still, I don't have any marketing qualifications, I'm only a punter!

The one that winds me up is "Kate Tilley, Great Central Railway marketing manager said..." in every item of news!
