Totally agree, a lot of negative comments on a private scheme here!

By my comment, I meant that the OP hadn't posted on here since the thread started, and I haven't heard back from him via PMs and offers to help. I wasn't expecting the thing to be built yet!

Well, the OP joined the forum on 7 January, posted this thread and made a few replies, but hasn't been active here since 16 January. So I suspect he has gone away from here and any PMs are sitting unread in his inbox...

Hi all, I still find it very poor that some people are against this sort of project, I am working very hard with the planning dept at this stage, but reading some of the latest post's I do wonder if i am talking on the correct forum. I allso have to relocate my buissines there as the main priority. Cheer's Neil.

If the chap wants to get permission to build his own railway and 'play trains' then he has every right to do so. ( BTW Nine Elms fan the words are "kraut" and "doesn't".) I have previously explained the reasons why I am against the present proliferation of "new generation lines" and "new-build locos". There is simply not the finance, volunteers and business to support any more than we already have. The T.R. is suffering and now the BARS lines.
It seems to me that the only people who are "wetting their Knickers" over these 'mad cap schemes' are the "gricer" fraternity. Those that are, or have been, involved at the 'sharp end' of preservation are calling for caution. Sorry it offends but that's how I see it and I started at the 'sharp end' nearly 45 years ago. Ray.

Oh Ray! The difficulties faced by the TR and BARS lines are only partly down to finance. The fact is that the TR suffers from geography problems, and the BARS model doesn't seem to work in the UK. I've been at the "sharp end" of many, many things, though you may indeed call me a "gricer," but I would never think myself so clever or informed to put someone off a resonable project just because I "see it" a certain way.

Chris, if you read Ed Ellis' message it clearly points to the 'heritage services' as representing the sector of Weardale operations which are making the greatest losses. Whilst I agree that the BARS model is somewhat different it still shows that the 'heritage sector' is overstretching itself and yet another new line will not help the overall movement. I don't consider myself particularly clever or informed but I am entitled to my own, reasoned, opinion. As regards the Mid-Wilts being "a reasonable project" - surely that is also a subjective opinion to which you are fully entitled. Ray.

It offers heritage services whilst not marketing itself as a heritage railway, this is why I believe it's model will struggle. It's hard to have a coherent marketing strategy if you don't have a clearly defined identity
