Hmm - interesting budget approach to a ballast regulator!

Spotted another alfresco 4-seater at Market Bosworth on the Battlefield Line - took a pic but can't find it now :/

It seems a bit frivolous posting on here when the bad news from Okehampton and Weardale came out today. There seems to be a lot of heritage railways feeling the pressure of the recession.
The p/way gang split into 2 groups today one doing a line walk on the Cauldon line while the second group had a big clean up and burn up at Bradnop Station. All the brushwood and some of the logs on both sides of the track were burned on a big bonfire there. We didn't need the fire to keep us warm, the work involved did that.
The first 4 photos are as we started the second 4 are as we finished.
Some of the friends of the CVR/MCR have had a collection and are having a sign made to put on the ruined platform, to show passengers on the Cauldon line where the ruins are. Hopefully it will be ready late June early July.

Perhaps a good example of what not to put on Youtube or otherwise publicise!

Why do you say that Steve? Do you think it will offend people? Or is it a health and safety concern?

    (Apologies for off topic-ness)

The latter. Not so much a concern by me (I might even have considered doing it myself before rejecting it) but a a simple mental risk assessment would tell you that there is every possibility of the machine catching on a chair or perhaps a sleeper bay devoid of ballast and jamming with the distinct possibility that the person whose arms are providing the drawbar would suffer possibly severe injury. It is a well-known fact that people don't let go in such circumstances, even though they think they can.

At the recent HRA seminar, HMRI stated that they are regular visitors to such places as forums and Youtube as valuable sources of information. Little escapes their notice. You publish at your peril.

    Hello all

My first post on here though I have been watching for some time.
Seen nothing on here for ages about MCR.
Anyone know if there have been any developments towards starting the work between Endon and Stoke?

Unfortunately it was to cold ,windy and deep drifts that stopped the gang going up the Cauldon line today, so we decided to try a line walk up and down in the valley. Group 2 did the Froghall to Consall the other group did Froghall to Oakamoor as it has been a while since I'd visited Oakamoor that was the one I went on.We had a new recruit today and as it had not got a PTS he was under supervision and was learning snow rescue. He will be my first photo. The walk was pretty uneventful usual things few keys out, 1 broken chair ect., but with a bit of snow falling it was the quietness of the line that was so special. No livestock about, very few birds, only a couple of buzzards flying high in the sky. All in all a beautiful, tranquil day, a bit of snow, a bit of sun. As we got to Froghall the S160 was just being prepared to move to Cheddleton after its seaside holiday at the WSR.

Photo1 Our new recruit, had to alter the jacket to fit.
    2 Tranquil walk to Oakamoor.
3 The old canal tow path where the railway crosses over the filled in canal.
4 The cleared veiw of bridge 26 now most of the trees have been felled
    5 Back from its holiday.

Work on the Cinder Path is continuing, with only the fencing requiring completion I believe.

Well you could not get any differences of weather on railways anywhere else than the CVR/MCR. The trains were running so one group went to Oakamoor where the Sun was shining and the light winds were warm to do a bit of gentle gardening. The other team worked on the Cauldon line with cool winds and up to 3 feet of snow trying to do a line walk. Glad I picked the right one.

According to the Offical Churnet Valley Website the trains to Cauldon are cancelled due to weather conditions There is a good photo on there, showing the 25 and S160 in a snowdrift. However normal services are running down the valley on the CVR.

Correct. It's freeze/thawed so many times you can walk on top of drifts without sinking.

IMGP0100_opt.jpg IMGP0101_opt.jpg IMGP0102_opt.jpg IMGP0103_opt.jpg I think summer has arrived, good group today, 4 went up the Cauldon line and 11 went jacking and packing near to Consall. Did a few dipped joints but the main work was a length of track that had sunk and as usual digging the sleepers out took some doing. Good day, good job, good company and plenty of banter, what more can one ask for

IMGP0105_opt.jpg IMGP0111_opt.jpg IMGP0109_opt.jpg IMGP0110_opt.jpg Weather funny today rain in the morning waterproof jacket on, have lunch sun comes out light jacket still sweltering cannot win. 3 groups today drew the short straw, changing a broken end of a sleeper, some machine at lineside had run over it. A couple of photos before and after of it was repaired. The good bit was it was the Education Day Train running so took a couple of that as well. In the sunshine did a part line walk, then walked down to Wall Grange. The track down there looked to be in good nick with last years weedkilling doing a excellent job. Soon be time to do all the lines again. just need a good couple of days together.
