There's a good article in the latest SVR news about a trip with 82018.

According to the history books, it was a No. 2 boiler.

My mistake - had confused the No 10 on the 2251's with the No 2 on the 56xx as you correctly say. The No 10 was a shorter firebox version of the No 2 NOT a shorter barreled version as I said in error - humble pie being consumed as I type! Ray.

6619 steams very well, but only after the jumper top was thrown away and a Kylchap fitted. A bit mediocre, before that.

The picture in the report shows a wheel pattern and states that it was commercially made - but didn't volunteer Brian Oldford make a pattern for this engine?

He did - but I remember reading that for some unspecified reason it could not be used.

Just a reminder that the 82045 AGM is tomorrow at 2pm upstairs at the Kidderminster Railway Museum, all welcome, members or not, should be lots of interesting progress to report.

Membership now 500 plus - continued growth.

Driving wheel contracts placed - money available in wheel account to finish drivers maching and assembly.

Cylinders due for casting - machining to follow - money available in cyclinder account. Patterns to be used by another group.

Work has started on Pony trucks. Work in progress for horn guides and blocks - reamed, countersunk holes and fitted bolts.

Accounts in excellent order thanks to efforts of the 'office staff', working volunteers and supporters.

Riveting continues. Front end cold riveting complete bar a handful of rivets. Work on rear end to commence in near future.

'Monday gang' numbers have increased over the year with the addition of futher skilled volunteers. 'Wednesday gang' numbers have also increased.

Sorry I was only attending. I am sure someone taking notes will add to these points. All in all an excellent and productive meeting, with the committee re-elected for another term of hard labour !

Interesting - what else shares cylinders with an 82xxx? A 77xxx?

76xxx I believe. The attempt at fabricating a cylinder for 76079 has been unsuccessful due to weld distortion and a new cylinder is to be cast.

gios: Thanks for that summary. Was hoping to attend but family matters got in the way.

Out of interest was anything said as to whether they have made any initial enquiries with possible UK manufacturers re the copper firebox as yet?

    Thanks

There were questions from the floor under AOB concerning the Boiler and Firebox - as to be expected. Answers from the top table confirmed that thoughts had already turned to this question, and some estimates had already been obtained. The major push at the moment is for a wheeled chassis and completed bottom end. Chris Proudfoot stated that he hopes to concentrate on the Boiler appeal once the current phase is completed, although a dedicated account is already in existence and the estimated costs should be within the Trusts remit given the current level of support. He did give some optimistic time estimates, but probably best not to go public with these at present !

Engineering excellence, membership support and forward planning appear to be one of the strengths of the Trust - and long may it continue.

    Thanks for the info.

Good to see the cylinder patterns being used to keep an existing loco going as well. As time goes by we'll see that sort of interchange occur increasing, to the point where I think it'll be possible to ask around and get most of what is needed for all sorts of designs.

Presumably the half-inch difference in the diameter of the cylinders between the 76xxx and the 82xxx/77xxx can be dealt with easily by machining, or a slightly thinner liner.

Think if memeory serves there were only 4 cylinder patterns for conventional (ie walshaerts) standards in any case: 9F, 5/6/7, 4/3, 2.
