Now then. Maybe I have missed the point. I did wonder why everyone was getting upset over a video with a Castle and a lineside fire. Seems it is to do with the title and associated comments. For those who do not know the original title etc, perhaps some clarification would be appropriate? Was it provocative? Was it offensive to someone? Has someone used foul language?

At the moment, I am as you will appreciate, extremely confused as to what has caused this almighty reaction to what, on the face of it, to me and I suspect others, a short video of a steam train and fire.

I simply read Ben of VT's abrupt comment and wondered what on earth had happened. Seemed quite serious but nothing I have read so far seems to back up the intensity of his comment.

Am I really missing something here?

And no need for that title so have to say I'm on Ben's side here, totally uncalled for although the way he may have acted is questionable but after all his and the rest of Tyseley's efforts, I can understand his frustrations.

Thanks David, we covered about 200 miles that day, with about 50 miles covered in a 5 mile radius in 3 hours. Likewise it was nice to meet you and Dave. Two lovely photographs, in particular the second at Castle Bar Park.

When your the public face of an organisation, you have to be so, so careful what you say in public no matter how frustrated or annoyed you get, because at the end of the day, the people your talking to are potential customers and alienating them with a public dressing down really isn't going to help you cause.

I've done plenty of work in selling and shop management where you've had to listen to a customer giving you what feels like the Alex Ferguson hairdryer treatment, but you still have to be polite, listen to them and try to answer them diplomatically, course as soon as I've gone in the staff room I've called them every swear word under the sun, but they are long gone by then.

I think the lad with the video was wrong with what he did, but I don't think it was with malicious intent, he's held his hands up and acknowledged it was a bad call, we should all move on.

    The answer is no one.

The picture is of Andy Taylor, the other driver that day was Ray Churchill. Hope that helps.

And that is what all the fuss has been about - title reference to a Prodigy song? I dread to think what might have happened had to you named the video after a song by Crazy World of Arthur Brown called "Fire" which went like this..........."I am the God of Hell Fire and I Give you Fire..........." LOL

Anyway, it's chucking it down in Berkshire. Pity it didn't come 3 days earlier!

To KristianGWR and the rest of the forum I apologise for swearing. I did not object to, nor was I trying to sensor the video - it is proving most useful in the investigations.

Everyone must understand that anytime these is disruption to mainline services because of a charter, steam or diesel, these are official investigations. Sensationalist titles to videos in the public domain simply do not help our cause. Pardon me for wanting to tone it down a bit whilst eyes are watching.

Well said young man. We will all forgive your outburst and accept your apology which is very gracious of you. We all love steam and would not wish anything to happen to bring it all to a halt. Vintage Trains are doing their bit to provide wonderful tours week in week out with STEAM. Long may it, and they, continue.

Can I echo that sentiment? These matters are very sensitive but I still feel that Ben should have made his point (although perhaps not as strongly) and anyone who has read what he writes on this Forum must have understood what was happening without gong into the rights and wrongs of language. If a formal discussion is happening about this, given the cancellations and delays that took place (RT Trains shows you how bad it was), I hope someone points out that it seems to be an instance (rather than along the length of the line?), posed little threat to the railway and trains given its location and the wind direction and may have burnt itself out anyway. But, of course this is 2013. and needs must, it seems.

Apology accepted :) I'm glad the madness had been put to an end and my apologies for causing it. Glad my video could be of help in any investigations :)

I don't know what the particular reporter was on that day, but I was rather bemused by his flowery description in said article of a gleaming red water carrier belonging to West Coast. Looking back from the engine as we left Moor Street, the vehicle behind was a Western Region Brown GUV belonging to 7029 Clun Castle Ltd.

    Regards
    Bob

Isn't that what reporters are noted for, getting it wrong...
