I had not looked at Cox, rather my old Ian Allen ABC Combined for 1956-57, which shows the 76xxx as 17.5 x 26, tractive effort of 24170 lbs, the 77xxx with cyls. 17 x 26 and t/e of 21490 lbs, and the 82xxx with 17.5 x 26 cyls and t/e 21490 lbs.
However the Ian Allen data is not necessarily 100% accurate, and I got it slightly wrong I think.

Anyway, whats half an inch between friends....!

Yes, the continued growth is excellent news. Members and Supporters make the 82045 project financially viable, without them little would be possible. The fact that more supporters are being attracted as 82045 progresses can only be good news. There are probably several solid reasons for this continued success.

    1. Monthly updates on a modern easy to access website, which shows continued, structured progress.
    2. An efficient and effective group of backroom volunteers who put in many hours of unseen hard work on the Trust's behalf.
    3. Large and growing group of Engineering volunteers working on 82045, moving the project forward in several areas at any one time.
    4. Engineering leadership, vision and quality control. No "1/2 inch between friends" allowed here !
    5. An overall spirit of co-operation, friendship and determination to succeed.

I thought I might be wide of the mark when I started this thread in May 2008 but time seems to have shown that 82045 really is "the way ahead" although clearly there's much work and money needed before we see this lovely BR Standard running on a heritage line. I do regret not being able to attend the AGM on 6 Apr but as it clashed with my other half's big 50 birthday party there was no choice!

A few things I love about the project

As gios says, a well updated website with regular monthly updates.

I love the fact that you have a good team of working volunteers building the loco as well as manning sales stands.

The size and practicality of the loco being built. I would love to see a fowler 2-6-4T built one day as a similar style project.

    Sorry I didn't attend the AGM :(.
I look forward to the monthly updates on the website, so that I can let other people know what is going on with the project :).

Fantastic news about VAT. Congratulations to all those involved in achieving such a wonderful outcome together with splendid continued progress.

Your all round success is a continual model for all who dream.

Seeing the rapid progress being made my mind drifts back to the early days - only a few years ago, when the Trust was just getting started at Bridgnorth. I remember well reading the postings of a rather persistent individual who warned everyone that 82045 as a project was 'doomed' to failure. How completely wrong could one individual be ? The lesson for us all surely, is never underestimate the determination and ability of a group of like minded people too meet objectives and fulfill dreams.

Hats off to you all, whatever your contribution - I look forward to being a passenger on 82045s first steam hauled journey in the not to distant future.

Thanks for the continued monthly updates. They bring a lot of confidence to the members that the project is on solid foundations and that progress is being made. I guess its getting close to the time for us long term supporters to start putting a little aside towards the boiler as that will be the real challenge on all levels.

I think the 82045 committee thought the same about the wheels, and before that the cylinders. Thanks' to continued membership support the 'wheel appeal' raised sufficient funding for the pattern, casting, tyre fitting, crank pins and machining in just one year. With the newly announced VAT exemption there is even some change. Agreed the boiler is a challenge - and a winnable challenge is just one of the reasons to be involved ! I am certain it is something the Trust will accomplish in their normal professional manner. However, I have also put something aside to get them off to a rapid start when they decide its time to fire the starting gun. Its probably worth remembering that the boiler also signals the home straight.
