This is covered by the The Rail Vehicle Accessibility (Non-Interoperable Rail System) Regulations (RVAR) 2010 see also http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/432/pdfs/uksi_20100432_en.pdf ...

... but there are a number of exceptions which may well be applicable to the L&B, see, for example:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...sultation-document-rvar-exemption-changes.pdf

The L&B management are well versed in what is required, and will, I'm sure, deal with that as appropriate when the time comes.

In the meantime, the disabled (wheelchair) access in Coach 17 is much improved over the current facilities.

    AND... As Jamie says! :)

I think I passed the chassis and bogies of No.16 on a flat bed lorry this morning on the A50 (between Derby and M1 Jct 24).

It was in ex works condition, with a hand brake column at one end and fitted with vacuum brakes.

    Regards,
    Gareth

Yes, that was it! Coach 16s underframe and bogies have now been delivered to Essex, on one of the two low-loaders used to take the carriages to WB. The other low-loader delivered "Pilton" to Woody Bay this morning! :)

Firstly, congratulations to the restoration team on the magnificent restoration of 7/17 - they look spectacular and hopefully will mark a step up for the L&B. I look forward to seeing 16 and 11 emerging in a years time or so.

    A few questions:

Is the brake column to the same design as the surviving original from No1 (later fitted to 23/17)

How close are the new underframes/bogies in design to the originals?
I remember a 'bogie fund' run by Fred Scholes (is Fred still involved in the L&B?) that was supposed to be ringfenced to pay for original design bogies - what happened to that plan and was the L&B able to use the ringfenced money for the new underframes/bogies?

I can answer one of your questions, the brake columns are not the same pattern, as can be seen from these recent views:

I was down the west country on the 17th of april and popped into the woody bay station just in time to catch "lilla" on the 15.00 service.
the train was well patronised considering it a mid week day in april and the weather was crap, never had time to look around much as our vehicles have trackers on them you cant fart without the office wanting to know where you are.
