Correct. I dislike it. Seems a shame to restore a beautiful locomotive, an icon of our past, and then paint it in the wrong livery.

Theirs to do with as they please, of course. Just my opinion.

Thats as may be , but it is a unwritten policy in preservation that those who restore get the choice of livery unless someone sponsors it otherwise.

Why do we get this bickering every time someone disagrees with a choice of livery?

One ex BR loco that has always carried a wrong livery in preservation is 80135 but I've never heard anyone complain about it. It does seem to suit it, though.

Looks very nice and would look great with 48624 at Loughborough. But for those who want a Green Jubilee then don't forget that there's more one Jubilee at Carnforth so you never know (I think there was something in a recent SR not ruling out that possibility).

Disappointed she's not green but not my loco so not my call. Won't stop me from booking a run behind her if I get the chance.

Something different. No doubt it will go well with 5690 if it comes out in LMS livery. Red will stand up well when she's out on the S&C anyway!

I think it looks fine like that. If WCR/the Beet family does read this forum, might i suggest messing with the purists even further and outshop Leander with LMS and 5690 insignias....but in brunswick green!

That looks fantastic, doesn't maroon suit it well.

Where do I sign up for a photo shoot ?

Whilst not authentic, this really was only down to signatures in a meeting that it didn't, so there's plenty of historical what-if... now satisfied.

The public will love it, as a Maroon engine it looks much more elegant and more unique than just another green or black one.
An enthusiast wanting to "bag it" will ride behind it whatever the colour.

    Dare I suggest a line up of 46441, 48624, 45699 and 46203 ?

Livery, livery, livery.... The fact that the locomotive apparently failed today appears to be just a side issue.

Aesthetically very pleasing whether authentic or not. Now need to paint 46115 to match ready for their August double headed Fellsman.

Err...yes, I know they have the right to paint it as they choose. That's why I said that as well, which you selectively missed from your quoting of me. And I don't think I was "bickering", simply expressing my opinion. Just because I haven't got £3000 to throw at a paintjob doesn't mean I can't express an opinion on someone elses choice. If they'd painted it LMS red or BR green I'd be really happy right now, and would express that opinion too.

There is a certain irony that on one thread we all defend Edmondsons and fear for their future as part of Heritage Railways' evocation of the ast, and on the other celebrate a spurious livery.

Regarding the failure...they'll repair it. We know they will, they're Carnforth, and really good at that sort of thing. No biggy.

Suppose that depends on the livery of the edmondson ?
Lets not forget Carnforth IS the spirit of the movement... They produced 44806 and 44932 in green (and that would be nice to see again) as well as a Furness Red 45407 (that I am less sure about seeing again)... 6441 in Maroon, (as well as pregrouping liveries of 4498, 4472, 5690, 850) and the DB BR01 and SNCF 231k...
Way back in the begining.... Why ?

Preservation in 1968 wasn't about microscopic preservation of the "now"... It was about saving steam and having fun.

Keeping the edmondson, and having 45699 in spirit of what could have been, whilst looking and appealing to those it is aimed for is what it is all about. If you want to appeal to the youth... Make it young.

Families will love it. Youngsters looking now, will someday see the history that 45699 is making today, and recall it, not trying to understand what history there grandads almost forgot.

    Well done Carnforth !

Pre grouping liveried of 4498, 4472, 5690 and 850? I think you mean pre nationalisation. As for Carnforth producing them, 4472 and 4498 had been running in their LNER colours since before Carnforth was closed by BR and became a preservation centre.

I can't help but wonder if the liviery is still temporary. Comparing images of her to 46203, 46229 and 48624 in maroon, 45699 has no lining on the splashers and running plate and has a black cylinder covers whereas 48624, 46203 and 46229 have maroon ones.

I may have been over thinking things but the loco is looking great and however she looks when enters traffic its great to see another loco back from the dead and joining WCRC fleet once her teething troubles are sorted.

maybe they had a batch of paint slightly lighter in shade than the usual class 47 stuff and didn't know what to do with it

    (just thinking out aloud)
