Treat yourself to a journey on the Old Gentlemen’s Saloon. We are recreating the nostalgia of the NER branch line workings by running two special saloon trains during the Spring Steam Gala. Included in the Old Gentlemen’s Saloon supplement ticket is either a fresh percolated coffee, Yorkshire Tea or fruit juice, hot bacon sandwiches (morning service) or selection of cold sandwiches (afternoon service), cakes and scones with jam and cream. This service runs over the full length of the line from Pickering to Grosmont and back, Passengers wishing to travel on either of the saloon services must also hold a valid travel ticket for the day covering the appropriate section of the line.

The Old Gentlemen’s Saloon supplement, inclusive of refreshments, is £20 per person for the full return round trip, book on-line here.

There are a couple of oddities. The reference to 14:30 Saloon on 7th is 14:00 I think.

The timetables do not give the full stock data for each day. Take 7th for example where the 10:00 and 14:00 ex Pickering should be the Saloon, but glancing at what is published suggests a normal train. 12:30 ex Grosmont is Saloon too I presume.

What about 08:30 ex Grosmont Saloon - is that ecs or open to anyone there at that time of day?

Is there likely to be any advance information about loco rostering, I'd like to visit on a day when both B1's are out... I'd also like a trip to Battersby on one of the Saturdays, again it would be good to know which loco will be working these runs ?

    Thanks

What days and times are the Battersby trains? I can't seem to find any mention if them on the website.

Well today number 29 made an appearance on the line from grosmont to goathland and back twice in a l/e movement. Looks fantastic . 60007 is carrying out it's own test run tomorrow with from what I am lead to believe twice from grosmont to Pickering and back in a l/e movement.

Both Ian rileys black 5s arrived safely on Sunday and spent the morning in the doings before being coaled with K1.

Green knight failed yesterday am but was working again in the afternoon.

Loco altercation will be released on the day of each gala and not in advance so I am told.

No news on Mayflower coming in. Does anyone have any information??????????????

Only green knight and b1 been running past few days with some trains tailed by diesel helping them out.

Let's be honest about this. The railway has been struggling recently and has been rather dieselised with 75029 the only working steam loco until 61264 worked at w/e. First steam of the day out of Pickering tends to be as late as 12:00! At least 44871 + 45407 should ease the situation and slightly surprised one of them didn't help out today. The NYMR website is honest about this, although not updated for a couple of days (shows 26th still - 75029 plus three diesels working). Fingers crossed for the gala.

Well according to one of the NYMR drivers one of them needs a washout and the other needs a repair before they are used.

One good piece of news that hasn't been posted here is that the NYMR has a new and very enthusiastic boilersmith. He finished off the work needed to get 29 back in traffic and is now on with Hartland.

I do hope this isn't going to be a repeat of the 2010 SSG! The B&B was booked last week!

    Regards

I'm sure this will be a good gala but one needs to be aware that 825 is running on a an extension to its ticket which expires at the end of July. The flue tubes started leaking last week. The repairs to 45428 have revealed amongst other things problems with one of manganese liners, work is going on to fix this but its not easy work. The K1 was needing a repair to its J pipe last I heard.

On the bright side and despite these problems you have 75029, Lambton 29. Joem, two Black 5s and two B1s plus a now mechanically sorted Gresley, thats eight locos! The trip to Battersby alone is super. I hope you have a great weekend.

Fingers crossed for 825, just managed to find static van for the week, so I hoping to catch her one last time at least before the ticket expired, just time tables, not yet had chance to look at them in details.

Some local gen required please - is it realistically possible to change trains at Levisham on gala days when they cross? Or do they hang over the Xing and leave you stranded?

    Thanks,
