Moorland ablaze as steam engine spark causes large bushfire - Local - Whitby Gazette

It's not just railtours which are causing lineside fires.

Funny how local Whitby Gazette picked up the story today, as the fire was Sunday, the none local Northern Echo had it on Tuesday...........

I was down on Saturday and our train (25 hauled) stopped twice going down hill between Goathland and Grosmont to put out two small fires caused by 825 which had just gone the other way.

So you'd prefer diesel haulage then? The NYMR isn't exactly overflowing with steam engines at the moment.. Most lineside fires are started by embers from the ashpan rather than sparks from the chimney, so I'd say get the ashpan fixed!
