Reports elsewhere saying 61306 has failed at Walsall with a broken tender spring. Try again tomorrow.

61306 "Mayflower" and support coach passed through Stafford Station at 1224

From midlands gen, so it's been seen and is on the way.

Smokebox first at Golborne, running approx to time, record shot here:-

    http://neils-photographs.smugmug.co...2840_68Kcmt#!i=2487577103&k=xb9cKZ2&lb=1&s=X2

I did intend going to a better location but due to an accident in the town centre (not involving me!) I had to make quite a diversion and got to a location just north of Golborne Junction just in time to attempt a pan shot but the shutter speed was a little too high at 1/80 sec.

Just wondering if anybody knows of any shots to be had, close by to any stations on the circuit route tomorrow? Say within a 10-15 minute walk? I had considered the shot taken on the curve South of Hellifield, where the distant semaphore is located, but because I'm using public transport, I wouldn't arrive until 13:39. And with the steam leaving at 14:00, I think I'd be leaving it tight? I'm sure others will know better if it's possible?

    Thanks

A walk across some fields to the west and south from Langho may be an option.

Plan at least would of been Tender First to Bescot then right way round to Carnforth, if she was facing the right way then Bescot could of been bypassed after Walsall, so using 2 sides of the triangle to turn.

It's on the way anyway and probably easier to path than a trundle round to Tyseley for the turntable.

Recalling, is Mayflower one of those engines that have a sharp exhaust? She is going to get a real workout at NYMR and on tomorrow's test run on the Carnforth loop..

Thanks Ralph, I think I can spot where the vantage point you're suggesting is. Just checking local transport links however, heck of a way and time to travel from Bangor to anywhere on the circuit for a single photo. Think I may skip this one out. Good luck to all involved tomorrow however!

Just to add to belle1's helpful tip; when you follow the links you will get a list of trains but if you then click on the headcode / train type you will then get a specific timetable for the train. At the head of this is up to 3 columns AND if the third column is present it will indicate - among other things - the time when the train has been activated. If this data is not present then the train will NOT run on that particular day.

B1's can make a decent noise when opened up.
