The 2013 WSR Autumn Steam gala is to have a Cambrian theme this year. It is expected to feature no less than 3 GWR Manors, with 7812 Earlestoke Manor from the SVR, 7820 Dinmore Manor returning from overhaul at Tyseley, along with the WSR's own 7828 Odney Manor (running as Norton Manor). Other visiting locos are to be announced.

    hey there
i know other guest engines are to be announced
but at the moment is there any indications of other engines on the provisional gala guest list

I would personally like to see 7827 Lydham Manor visit maybe alongside 44806 Kenneth Aldcroft.

    Many Thanks
    YRM.

7812 is Erlestoke Manor & not as spelt above.

(Erlestoke is a village in Wiltshire)

Given the effort for a "Cambrian" gala it would be nice to see 7828 in its proper guise as Odney Manor

presumably the theme would bring 3205 , a standard 4 tank or tender , and maybe a small prairie all under consideration

Surely the Dukedog is needed for a Cambrian theme?

Thanks, hadn't realised. On past form with the Bluebell, it could be many years before she's back in action.

Just time for someone to pay for her to be repaired then...

Seriously, to YRM - there is many a slip 'twixt cup and mouth. In other words, given the generally scarce nature of steam engines available for heritage line use at the moment, particularly the larger engines that the WSR would need, I'd suggest that almost regardless of what the railway wants to have for their gala, there will be many a twist and turn and rumour and false alarm along the way before what finally arrives arrives. Loco A will be said to be coming, but then will fail with boiler problems three weeks before. Loco B will be rumoured as a replacement, but the rumour will turn out to be untrue, because B's home railway won't be able to spare it. And in the end the gala will run, but people will be scratching their heads trying to understand the significance of why an LMS Goods engine and a Southern Mogul (or whatever - just examples) are at a Cambrian Gala, and historians will pore over books trying to see if some member of those classes ran an RCTS special over the line in the dying days of steam. Meanwhile the operating department will just get on with things and suffer long hard days; the trains will eventually run, and most people - except about half a dozen nerds in orange jackets - will be happy provided there is at least steam on the front.

For evidence, just read any of the other big gala threads here on NatPres. Some lines don't announce visiting engines until the last moment, and get slated for not communicating - "how am I supposed to plan my day if I don't know what is coming?" And some announce well in advance what they plan, then the engines aren't available and they get slated anyway for not delivering what they promised because people made travel plans on that basis!

It will be, given the queue in front of her. Was discussed at some length in the "Bluebell Matters" thread recently.

Is she then going blue or another colour? A black, blue and two green manors at the WSR would have been quite something!

Is that the final line up confirmed? If so, it is a shame a there is not a non GWR guest.

Really? - for a large part of its life the absorbed Cambrian was a GWR or BR(W) line. Furiners only appeared late on!

Seems a shame 3850 is continuously ousted from their galas... not mentioned in the 'line-up of 8 Swindon machines' page despite being a Swindon machine....! Seems to be the norm to have her as backup during galas....wonder why?
