I would not believe everything you read in the railway press, but If, and until something is officially announced that 5668 is heading south, it is a big if, it will be many years before she could be restored 4253 would have to be completed before any work can be started , but would be a very good source of spares for 6619 until such time as she can be restored in her own right, thats all i'm going to say, but apparently she does come with a large ammount of spares and as such would be welcome

Why not? K&ESR was never part of the Southern Railway, and first operated an ex-GWR loco in 1914.

South from Pontypool is Newport, then the Bristol Channel. I think it would be of more helpful to the K&ESR if it were to move 200 miles East South East!

Sorry then south east, so going south, would that have meant a return to its former home at barry , one place no one would have wished to see an engine return to when woodhams were still active.

There's a thought for a photo op... a single digit number plate, a name plate and some green paint... Knowle is probably closer to the right spec

Well, at the current rate, you never know what the Kent and East Swindon will do next! Anyone else got a Western engine they want a new home for?

Not sure if the terrier trust would go along with that, and besides we don't have any mid chrome green paint at the moment lol, one day though, who knows, it would have to be no3 though, as 78 isnt due repainting any time soon, before its ticket is up no3 will be going back into green at some stage so i guess that would be the best time to give it a coat of dark green before it goes light green but it would have to be for a very short time say, no more than 2 weeks to a month .

Keep going at this rate, and you'll be finished before the Hornby model of the class is generally available...

Intrigued as to why a new rod should have been forged and not used by its original owners?!

Plenty of 2-8-0t's or similar, that haven't yet run, that may need the part, some day.
If the part was made in the 90's for a specific project, and that project stalls, and the parts are owned by several owners, can't blame an individual if they decide to cash in, than let it sit forever waiting for that project to sort itself out.

    Sorry wrong answer ADB968008 .

In any case we do have principles, and certainly would not buy a part from someone if was to pull the rug from underneath an already struggling project !

Keep speculating, the reason is quite simple and very honest.;)

My guess is that someone couldn't count, and had three made for their engine!
