On Saturday 27th April is the British Pullman on route to Kingswear in the evening and what time will it pass on to the DSR if it is coming down?

    Thanks

I see that the boiler of 5239 was in the yard today, with smoke coming from the chimney. Looks liked a boiler steam test.

I believe it is due to be the manor. The loco is at present facing smokebox to London.

A rare chance to ride behind the DSR's Class 25 D7535 this Saturday. Five trips, first departure from Paignton at 09.45 (or just after as we will wait for the cross country mainline arrival if it is running to time). Trains are being run as a joint venture by the DSR and the Devon Diesel Society, who have recently undertaken some work on the loco for the owners, and have been training DSR staff to drive it. Proceeds from the day are going to the DDS. Tickets, with fares only payable on the train and in cash only, are £10 a single round trip, or £17 for a rover ticket. Child fares half price. Should be a good day and photo stops have been included, plus some odd moves such as running round at Goodrington on one trip. The diesel services will pass the normal steam services at Goodrington, Churston and Kingswear at various times during the day. Please not diesel tickets are not valid on the steam hauled services.

Hope the D7537 event with DDS went well financially. Trains seemed well patronised, and happy faces. Hopefully the start of things to come?..

Passed through Teignmouth dead on time at 12:58. Was hoping to see it on the sea wall and was walking in that direction hoping it might be a few minutes late. Nope, it was on time and I wasn't!

Went over for a ride to coincide with the Bittern tour on Tuesday. Superb day. 7827 sounded fantastic, the Torbay Express headboard and Torbay Manor plates (on one side only) were a nice touch. Having the loco facing London was good for photographic variety too. Is it staying that way for long? I noticed 'Hercules' was back facing Kingswear already.

Great to see Goliath in one piece and looking nearly ready for action outside the workshop at Churston too.

Thought the turnaround and shunt process at Kingswear was impressively slick. Getting Bittern plus support coach off the train, Cl.25 off the other end, shunting support coach into yard, Bittern heading off for servicing LE, shunting the support coach back onto the London end of the set with the Cl.25, then running the Cl.25 round to propel the whole lot out of the station and back into bay... As time went on I thought there was no chance of accomplishing all that without delaying the service train, yet by my count 7827's down service was only 10 mins late into Kingswear and the return was on time.

Question as an aside - any reason why the Prairie stored at Churston is under the bridge rather than in the workshop? It looked at a glance there would be space properly undercover. It being outside meant I could get a picture, but it just seemed slightly odd.

7827 today pulling 9 coaches from the first train of day.
One little slip leaving Goodrington well controlled by driver.
Sounded great going up the bank.
KC looked good on the Dart.
Must go on KC next time I'm down.
The Fosters also was good in the Spinning Wheel Paignton
    when we got back.

A feast of steam this week on the railway. 7827 & 4277 are operating the 2 train service tuesday to thursday. 5239 will be out and about running in after a year and a half out of service. All being well, 5239 & 4277 will double head on thursday, with a possible top & tail trip on the last service thursday. 5239 will then re-enter service on friday.

The Kingswear Castle will also be out on the river Dart.

Plenty to see so come on down!

Travelled behind 7827 yesterday (Tuesday) just after a heavy rain shower. 7827 didn't like the wet rail very much, slipping several times on Goodrington bank. Progress was slow.

5239 was in steam outside Churston shed all day, looking good!

Sailed on PS Kingswear Castle, a wonderful experience. Good to see it back on the Dart.

4277 took us back to Paignton but seemed to be very short of steam climbing up to Churston from Kingswear. The exhaust beat was odd (first beat in the bar was heavily accented) but speed was almost down to walking pace through Greenway Halt and only picked up when the gradient eased closer to Churston station. I can only assume there were problems with the fire as the 42xx and 52xx locos usually romp up there without breaking a sweat.
