RTC are saying on their website that 60009 will be working with two tenders and this will speed up the journey. However northbound is still nearly 5 hours? How can this be? Which second tender is to be used?

I think that it might be a pathing matter, irrespective of whether there is a second tender. 0818 from KX. See http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t11/t0709b.htm for previous timings.

What perhaps it could be is WCRC's GUV that used to be used by Vintage Trains before they got their own.

Those were the timings for two years ago. Whilst they may be the same this year RTC specifically make the point that taking a second tender will speed things up. I have emailed them but as usual they havent replied. May book on this one and take a chance that No 9 is between big end failures!

Tickets arrived today saying that the loco will be 70013 as no 9 isn't available.

    Interesting if true..........

Oh, be nice for 70013 to return, but shame that route doesn't have an A4 for it.

I see there is an even time start to stop booking on the return. Newark to Peterborough?

Don, go stand in the naughty corner! ;)

Saying that this year of all years..

I've even stated I won't respond to any comments about the 05 this year.

I did mention it once, but I think I got away with it.

This has got to be the year of the A4s. I'm even thinking about a very late booking on one of the 90mph runs ex the Cross if a seat is available and if my Owls haven't called my to the far North. But it has to be a decent schedule. I am NOT going to time an A4 out of the Cross on a schedule based on anything like 5 hours to York. One has standards you know. History and my personal preferences dictate that.

Oh no. First I was going on it but not with a 5 hour schedule to York. So then I had decided to drive to Welwyn for a shot but now its going to be a Brit?? Big end failure again Wedgie?

I think your right Duty Druid. 60009's last trip was Day 4 of the Cathedrals Express to Scotland and 60009 was taken off at York. I wonder if 60009 has gone on display at the NRM as she's not listed for anymore tours before Mallard 75 now that 70013 is taking over this tour.

I'm heading up to York on Saturday so will look out for 70013 on the way up and at York as well as hopefully 60009 as well as my last set of pictures of her were in the wet so not great (same goes for 70013 actually).

Dredging back over the past, I seem to recall an A4 could do York - Kings Cross inside three days?

    Just.

Yes, yes. I know. Support crews, pathways, other work etc etc.

Don't mention the big end! LOL!

Dan, you're probably right about No.9 being on display (UK steam lists her as unavailable) it would make a lot of sense, to go from York to Southall light engine would not make any sense, and would be wasting money, IF she was to have done this trip, then the only way she could have come down would have been double headed with Bittern, Now THAT I would've gone out to see....................................... :)

Still, its about time Ollie stretched her legs....................................................... If I'm still standing after a long day in the yard at Medstead on Saturday and the light is good, I might be tempted to go out and see the return!

Just remind Mr. Yeti about MN crank axles and how they liked to disassemble themselves at speed - e.g. at Crewkerne. :)

    What... splutter splutter splutter....what!

The TRUE story of that incident is that certain people from the North were testing out how to sectionalise a Merchant Navy for display. LOL!

No9 has been stopped for a washout after the amount of work she has picked up this year and over 6000 miles travelled this year.
