Maybe if they are determined to keep running her as 825, rather than rebuilding 841, they could consider rebuilding the tender raves to the correct profile for 825. Then when they rebuild 830 the tender coulod be swapped between engines, as 825 and 83o both should have the earlier style tender, the same as ran with 828 and runs with 777.

Indeed, not ideal, but with 825 boiler ticket just expired, SNG at York, B1 on washout and 9F finishing off overhaul just leaves Eric Treacy & Green Knight to plod on.

Hartland & 76079 still long way off, Q6 remains at LNWR, Crewe - boiler overhaul.

    Aren't you forgetting one?

Lambton Tank 29 has also been out to play. (Maybe with a bit of help from a 37 )

Failed with lubrication problems, according to a poster on another forum.

While faffing around on Youtube earlier, I found this. It's absolutely fascinating.

Interesting that in '69 the line was still double track to Levisham, albeit the down line looks overgrown and disused in places..
I believe at that time that the trust had permission to use the line and formally took over in '73. Was it BR that ripped up the second line or the trust?

It was BR that removed the second line, so BR demolition trains would have been running after this film was taken! It's a shame in some ways that the second line was removed, but much of it was checkrailed due to the tight curves (which go back to its horse-drawn origins) and retention of the original alignment would probably have meant that the larger engines we see today on the NYMR would have been unable to run and that what could run would suffer severe flange wear. The opportunity has subsequently been taken to use the full width of the double formation to ease curves as much as possible.

At least the NYMR didn't hire out their own engines to dismantle the line.

Be fair. It isn't as though the contractors would have packed up and gone home if they hadn't been able to hire the NLR tank. They would have simply sourced a loco from elsewhere. As it was, the Bluebell gained much-needed revenue at a time when every penny counted.

I'm not sure that there was one available at the time, otherwise they might! However, I think the demolition train originated from York and were hauled by class40s, I doubt if any of the industrial engines from the early days (Mirvale, Borrows No 3 or Salmon) would have constituted a viable alternative (waits for the industrial fans to shoot me down in flames!)

Splendid piece of film. I love those pioneering days, never to be recaptured with today's much more commercial ethos. And it isn't that easy to get a ride in a railbus these days.

This footage, filmed a decade later, makes for an interesting contrast both with the line today and the line at the end of the Sixties. Note the brief appearance by "Western Lady" in the final seconds.

I am guessing that even with such a wet winter that the NYMR must be at FIRE CON measures soon if not already...?

I notice from the loco roster that the only steam traction in action at the moment is 61264 and 75029. I'm planning on visiting on Saturday - any chance that either 60007 or 45428 will be back by then?

The 9F can't be far off a return to traffic either, so on paper at least in motive power terms the NYMR looks to be in a stronger position than it has been for a while. What news of the T2?

As far as I am aware, 45428 is on washout, having started on Monday, and hence should be back Saturday. 60007 started a water change during the day yesterday, which again should be completed by the end of the week and the S160 is due to arrive today/last night, so should be available for traffic by Thursday, subject to gauging etc.

Apparently the 9F has been out for a run to Goathland and back yesterday.
So cannot be far off being back in traffic.
