Oh dear. Cancelled completely or just postponed, I wonder? Last-minute glitch discovered during the FTR, perhaps? Let's hope it's just a delay...

I also see from UKsteam/RTT that Tangmere's L/E trip from Poole to Yeovil Jn this morning has been cancelled. I haven't searched RTT thoroughly, so I don't know if a different trip (different time or destination?) has been arranged instead.

Check the Torbay express thread for full quote but does say all mainline steam is banned but this by No means is 100% proof on my part.

    Quote from Nunney Castle website:
"Rather sadly, as we understand it, Nunney and other steam engines have been banned from operating on the main line due to the fire risk. Nunney was passed 'fit to run' on Thursday and the support crew allocated for the transfer to Bristol and Torbay Express on Sunday. A lot of time and effort has been put into preparing our loco for the weekend and although disappointed, we respect and understand the decision made. We sincerely hope that we are permitted 'out and about' soon to show you how well Nunney is running! In the meantime we will stay at Tyseley and focus our attentions on the support coach." http://www.5029nunneycastle.co.uk/INDEX.HTM

At present, we are still running on our Sunday's Shakespeare Express. The loco rostered is 4965 "Rood Ashton Hall". The concern seems to be with the Western Region and Western mainline.

I'm pleased to hear that Nunney is fit to run. Must be hugely frustrating for all concerned.

I worry that NR are doing their best Corpral Jones impression. "The sun's coming out! There's high pressure! Temperatures expected in the 70s! Don't panic Mr Mainwaring!, Don't panic!" I wonder what their evidence is? I don't suppose they'll publish it, even if they have it....

The west country is extremely dry at present. We have had rain this week but the ground has dried out very quickly afterwards. <BJ>

But do they need to do anything? The majority of trains aren't steam hauled, and the vegetation doesn't affect the services. If they don't need to change it, why should they?
