Great photo there, SNG, I see you and Stuart (Swiss Toni) have been out photographing those pink flowers again so they must be getting water from somewhere !! Certainly the photo is full..good stuff...Pete

 

The pink flowers in SNG's photo are rosebay willowherb, also known as fireweed. It's a pioneer species, one of the first to move in to derelict land, especially burnt areas. It is quite happy on poor, dry soil, and will take advantage when other, more picky plants are having a hard time.

 

Good answer, thanks for that. Googled and contributors saying ' spreads like wildfire', 'taken over my garden', pulling the stuff up every day', 'my lawn is full of it' etc etc. So, perhaps I'll leave my initial thoughts well alone and leave it where it is.. Looks good in the photos though lol.....Pete

 

Haha! Yes, much as I like seeing it on the lineside, I wouldn't want it taking over my garden! The pink flowers in Stuart's shot last week are valerian, I think. That also thrives in poor conditions. You'll find it on cliff tops and, around my way, clinging to the top of dry stone walls and poking out of cracks in the pavement. Islip, in particular, has lots of it - very pretty!

 

I like that, nice composition, BUT it needs a decent caption, something like - "Hands up if you like Jubs"!!

Still good to see the orange men acknowledging to loco .................... something tells me they've done a PTS course.........................................................
