Nice shots folks. Great to see her out on the "Big Railway" at last. Fingers crossed all went well with 34046. There are a few "light engine" shots on YouTube albeit with a diesel in tow.

Video from Pleasington, as you can see from the shimmer it was very warm, and with a head wind not much noise from her, diesel however did not sound to be doing much as it went past.

Difference with running on preserved lines is there is a lot more stop starting quick spurts of power which I know is different to mainline running but is this type of running not testing out components more frequently? Admittedly no lengthy higher speed runs can take place but when the engines had a bit of fine tuning that's what you go out on the mainline for isn't it?

Watching these vids of braunton she looks great - no obvious leaks or funny noises - is it just me or does her cylinder beat sound more 'even' than some of the other westcountrys ? Or am I just hearing things..

At last........What a great sight. Well done to everyone at the ELR...and she sounds just as a Bulleid should. They are such wonderfully free steaming locomotives so it's just a pity that her passing seems to have left a smokey trail across the north west. That is not typical of rebuilds for sure and I suppose is down to coal quality.

Ditto that and the vids, seems to have been effortless in the clips so far. Picked the wrong week to be 350 miles north!

Not much chance of seeing leaks though in the hot weather, the even beat could be due to the tuner.....

First thus has now't to do with the ELR, it IS "Ian Riley & Son" (especially Chris Birmingham) who have done the work and got it right for today's test run. Please give give credit to the right people at least. Yes the test was apparently successful.

In the meantime, has member who was out at the lineside today, could provide some images of the test run PLEASE, I'm sure they will be appreciated by all concerned at Ian Riley's. Thank You.

I can think of several loco owners that doesn't always allow their loco's to have a shakedown on a preserved line besides WCR , clan line , Tyseley, Locomotive services with 5029 straight out of TYS and 70000 straight out of Crewe, 1306, 60009.... Besides when the big railway used to fix them they didn't have preserved lines to trial them on.
As for a comparison between Galatea and Braunton, I would say Galatea's minor setbacks have been sorted superbly compared with the trauma's braunton has had since initial running on the WSR 5 years ago to mainline operation today............

I did know it was Ian Riley & Son and there are other posts that acknowledge that. Apols if this post gave the wrong impression. The fact that the ELR has provided a valuable proving ground for Braunton was the inference intended. More than happy to correct the error. It's not as if the preservation world isn't aware of the quality turned out by this set up, as illustrated for example, by the Riley 5s that provide the benchmark for the class.

Nice one Ralph. Strange that '46 should be out and about doing her thing while over the Pennines the Black 5 was getting a free ride behind a 47.

Thanks to all who have posted pictures and videos. Great that 34046 has finally made it onto the main line. It's a long time since any Bulleid other than Clan Line or Tangmere has ventured onto the national network. UKsteam suggests a busy programme ahead for Braunton once the fire risk recedes. Seems like at the moment there's only 34046, 34067 and 5029 to share the Dorset Coast Expresses, Weymouth Seaside Expresses, Royal Duchies and Torbay Expresses. I was disappointed that TBEL shelved the Bath Spa Expresses and the other workings from Poole, but with hindsight, it was the right decision, as there would have been real problems this year finding a loco to work them.
