    Nice photos from the IoW. Never been to the island but as I will be in Southampton the last week in August, I hope to pay a visit to the railway. Fingers crossed 24 will be in steam.

    No I do not currently volunteer
    There is a very good chance that W24s axlebox repairs will be completed by mid August so you should be in luck, if you visit over the bank holiday which is the Island steam show you should also be treated to W8 as well.

    Thanks for the info GW. I have been looking at how to get to the IoW line from SO and seems it will cost a pretty penny for the two of us by foot ferry, bus & '38 stock tube train. How can such such short ferry crossing cost so much?
    Anyway looking forward to a good day out.
