And that, sadly is true of many other situations when a diesel is added.

Maybe Tangers or Ollie, as one of them will be at the Yeovil Railway Centre after hauling the Dorset Coast Express??

"Subject to change at any time" leaves it still open ended. Not keen on getting up at 04:00 m, driving to Bristol and then finding a box in the consist. Equally not keen on studying at home to find they changed their minds at the last minute.

The way I read that it is they are taking the diesel tomorrow. The "subject to change" caveat is just to cover themselves in case of last minute FTR problems, etc. At the very least, the DL will have to work on the climbs. Having seen Nunney's all-out slog on Evershot and Bincombe in previous years, I can't imagine the DL providing less than half the effort tomorrow. The situation may be different on other sections. Sorry Spamcan, doesn't look like it's going to be your day tomorrow.

If what you say turns out to be true then I will have wasted my hard earned money. If it's still too dry then so be it but if the forecast rain for today and tomorrow arrives then I'll be most unhappy for the diesel to be added "just in case."

I've just driven from Dorchester to Yeovil in a monsoon, plenty of standing water and some places likely to flood.
Main concern for tomorrow is whether the line will still be open! There are several places between Pen Mill and Dorchester that are susceptible to flooding.

I'm told that the diesel will be on the rear of the train tomorrow. I think the information is reliable.

That's something I suppose but given the reports of how much rain has fallen, I wonder if it will be needed at all.

34098, you will be pleased to know that 33207 is piloting 5029 today.

Complete farce at BTM today. First of all RTC had failed to send the tickets and had not allocated seats and we weren't on the seating plan. Thankfully train manager has managed to get us seated. Now we have had a debate about where the diesel should be and we're getting it up front. 33 late and counting. "Why aren't we moving Daddy?" the youngsters are asking. My reply would not be suitable for young ears.

That sucks! If Somerset and Dorset got similar rain to what we had here yesterday then I can't believe the 33 is needed.
The first genuine(*) mainline passenger working of a class 33 in almost 5 years and it's piloting a steam loco where most people on the train would rather it was anywhere else.

(*) Excluding various Whitby-Grosmont-Battersby runs, a drag-back at Newcastle and a tour that ran to make a point about pathing on the Esk valley and was inaccessible from most of the country.

doesn't sound a fun day, why couldn't the diesel go behind Nunney like on the Torbays?
