    Hello

Can anyone provide details of the permanent way wagon fleet used by the R&ER please? I understand the wagons are identified using letters rather than numbers.

I know there are the following types, but if anyone could provide the identities, that would be great!

    8 x 4w-flat/ballast wagons
    1 x 4w-flat
    2 x bogie flat
1 x bogie manrider (is this just a bogie flat to transport people?)
    1 x 4w-weedkiller-spay wagon
    1 x 4w-mess van
    1 x 4w-tank

There might be others as well. Did the R&ER build these wagons itself or buy them second-hand from somewhere else?

    Thanks

Perhaps this thread might actually be better on the narrow gauge page? Please could a moderator move it there? Thanks

Sorry, I can't help with current identity (my stock book is dated 1997! and I'm 350 miles from the railway) but they're all home built. The bogie flats and 'man-rider' are former bogie open coaches. The man-rider has one set of seats at each end retained (total 4 seats). The tank wagon is on a 6-wheel chassis, formerly under River Irt's tender. The red mess van is bogie.

    Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone know if any of the original mineral wagons from the line survive, or were they all scrapped?

Not 'original' (that would be 3' 00" gauge, if you know the history of the railway!) but a 1922 Theakston tippler wagon is preserved.

Thanks for the info about the Theakston tippler. I did a Google search to find out some more information about it, and stumbled across this page:

    http://www.editthis.info/ratty/Main_Page

It has details of all the current stock, including the engineering wagons, but there isn't anything on the heritage wagons other than the description of the type. If anyone know the identities of the preserved Theakston tippler and Heywood open wagons, that would be great.

    Thanks

Don't believe everything you read on that site (or anything anywhere on Wikipedia for that matter!). River Esk has been out of service undergoing major overhaul for a long time (2 summers at least IIRC), and Northern Rock in service after completion of its overhaul similarly. (Just two examples at the top of the page).

I assume this website is just out of date somewhat - have a look at the dates for the last edit under the "history" tab.
