My parents stayed in Grange Over Sands for their honeymoon. My dad's decision to stay in a hotel relatively close to Carnforth when they were open at weekends was entirely coincidental...!

Or any black fives infact, wonder what odds you can get of a five not creeping in at some stage between now and then.

A fantastic line up true but a cynic would be pleased that there are now 5 black 'uns to divide between the 9 days. Not that i would mind.

Yes they have dipped their hand in the hat, pulled out a long list of numbers and said "Whoopee lets play with these" I don't suppose anyone expects a significant proportion of that "wish list" to be available on the day.

Be interested to see what happens with that given the gauging issues on the Stranraer line, believe it's now a line below RA5 apart from special circumstances (hopefully granted for this).

I've been to Grange and don't remember seeing the sea there, just a ton of sand dunes, at least at Weston you can see the sea through Binoculars ;)

What does RA5 specify? Is it axle-weight? Are you aware of what has changed since 2011, when 45407+44871 (IIRC) got there and back?

I hope GB7 does get to Stranraer. Now that the ferries have moved up the coast, there must be a question mark over the future of this line.

Weight/axeload is definetly involved but not sure if there's more to it than that, to put it in pespective, Barmouth Bridge is RA5.

Cue for another fiery Nat Pres debate!

But watch out, we'll be fighting over which end of a boiled egg to crack before long too!

Both 2011 and 2012 went in an anti-clockwise direction.

RA is determined by the weight on each axle and the distribution (ie separation) of the axles. It is used for assessing the loading on bridges.

Seriously considering doing this (subject to being able to get leave) but it will be interesting to see what happens on the last day as the WCML is shut through Watford ( see here )

Either change the dates ( they have done before, although Easter is the weekend before and there is bound to be engineering work somewhere on the route) or down the Chiltern Line into Paddington or via West London line to Victoria ( since they say " A diesel locomotive will take the train from Euston to Staines, Woking, Basingstoke and Salisbury, where stops will be made to set down passengers. ")
