With diesel assistance now back on the SSE, I presume as a result of yesterday's lineside fires on the S&C, I fear the chances of this Sunday's train escaping similar treatment are not looking good.

Looking at the times on UKsteam, I notice the Waverley is due to take water at Hellifield in both directions, as well as 1T57. I thought the tank at Hellifield was only capable of filling one tender, and then took several hours to refill? Use of tankers then, plus quick top ups at Appleby? Note the times on UKsteam for the Waverley are revised slightly and are correct on the RTT link - times on UKsteam show both tours in Hellifield goods loop at the same time.

Northbound probably will fill from hydrant in car park or otherwise tanker, since tank filling point is in Southbound loop.

I'd have thought this photo would look good without most of it being changed.

Where is your proof of the so called ' line side ' fires on the S&C ? it has been previously stated here that there was a RUMOUR only of lineside fires, subsequently NOT bourne out in fact ! Loose lips and all that !!!
Apologies, this is in answer to post #21

Err the proof was on this very forum with a video showing a small fire at Stainforth from the Wednesday fellsman!

Sadly the usual 47 was tucked inside Scots Guardsman on the Waverley, hoping no diesel is added with Cromwell! Full rainy dull at Arten gill, hoping for better Luck at Selside this afternoon, weather is blowing through quickly as it does he on the S & C. Currently sat in the waiting room at Ribblehead station (free wifi, useful to know) Sunny out the front door, stormy black wet clouds out the rear window, normal here :)

The 5s in particular looked splendid as twins. Glad they weren't renumbered but a nice touch taking the nameplate off 5231 for the day. Both locos a credit to their owners and a fitting memorial to the original event.
Earlier 70013 was equally impressive though the weather was not kind from Settle to the summit. Again, credit and thanks to the custodians and all those that made it happen.

Once in a while you get lucky.........'er indoors decides today she would like to visit her nephew. 'I've told him we'll be there
between 1 and half past' says she. 'No problem' says I. Her nephew lives 100yds from Horrocksford Junction!

And what went past Horrocksford Junc., just after 1-30pm today?

The pair of 5s turned 23 early off Blackburn to booked time by the summit at Sough. Cautious progress due to rail condition it seems.

Well the S &C was at its its truculent best when it came to weather today, wherever I went black clouds seemed to follow me :) Selside was especially memorably bad, glad I had a change of clothes!
It did look like Sun was present in patches elsewhere so hopefully other people faired better. To top it all they beat me back to Whalley viaduct by 4 minutes by running 24 minutes early, when did that last happen on a railtour?!?! Never mind, always another day :) ....
