    Hullo everyone,

The unique survivor of some 1,000 Royal Arsenal Railway narrow gauge munitions wagons was moved to Crossness pumping station for restoration on 22nd July 2013. A full account is given here...

    http://www.therailwayproject.blogspot.co.uk/

If you make you're way back through that blog you'll see a detailed history of our restoration of the last Royal Arsenal NG steam loco, Avonside 1748/1916 'Woolwich'.

Being landlocked within a strictly secured site we can only rarely accept visitors. That said, we're still very friendly people and welcome everyone on open days. The next is tomorrow, 28th July, followed by 1st September and 13th October 2013.

    All the best - Ian

Whatever happened to the neat little small gunpowder van that was once at the SKLR? I remember seeing it in about 1978 and it was removed by whoever owned it [ I think] for more appropriate display.

    Hullo cncmodeller,

The four wheeled Powder Wagon is now at the Conwy Valley Railway Museum at Betws-y-Coed. It's in very good condition. It was preserved by the late Dave Brewer of the Greenwich and District MRS.
The photo which I hope I'm about to upload was taken just a few years ago by a member of the Royal Arsenal Woolwich Historical Society and the scene would probably be the same today.

Thanks Ian for the image, it looks great! Much wider than I remember just goes to show how big the narrow gauge can be even on 18 inches.

The wide angle lens lies again. There's a good drawing of the 4 wheel wagon here...

    http://78n18.laurell.nu/downloads.html

As you can see, it's only 4 ft 6 in wide!

Incidentally, if anyone would like to help restore the last bogie version (top of this thread) you'd be very much more than welcome!

    Best - Ian
