Churnet Valley in 2013

Excellent news, no doubt some good pictures will appear online soon.

I tried asking this on the NYMR forum, but no one had the courtesy to reply. A 6 week stay would have 29 staying at the CVR till about the 27th September, by my calculations. Can anyone confirm this, as I will be back in the area from the middle of the month.

Our last public service is Sunday 6th October until Ghost Train 26th, and by then we should have 6046 back so would *presume* that 29 will stay until then just incase. If I get any confirmation either way I shall post on here.

29 is now working all 5 trips solo as of this evening.

 

And if you're lucky on the webcams you'll see her on test. Just watched her come off shed myself.

A dull day at Cheddington but brightened by the sight of Lambton 29 working its first train - less than 24 hours after arrival complete with a Wedding Special.



As its only present for 6 weeks a visit is a must to sample this rare machine making its FIRST known visit away from its home line and the North East :

 

Sorry Fred - No.29 has spent a summer holiday in Kent before now - which was the furthest south she has ever been, being built in Leeds and used in the North East and then North Riding.

I have a feeling she may have also called in at Foxfield for a Gala in the past but that could have been a discussion rather than something which actually happened, and I also seem to think there may have been a trip back nearer to her old home at Tanfield.

Today on Green CVR Timetable
Wed 21 on Green CVR Timetable, plus evening diner
Sat 24 she is on a Private Wedding Charter to Ipstones, TnT with a 33
Sun 25 on Green CVR Timetable
Mon 26 on Green CVR Timetable
Wed 28 on Green CVR timetable
Sat 31 on CVR Services for Blue/Green Timetable, plus evening diner.
Sun 1 Sept on Cauldon Services TnT with 33 for Blue/Green Timetable

This is all subject to change as I don't know how long the repairs will take for the N7, but it is expected to be a few weeks as we are awaiting delivery of parts. Not totally sure what is happening on Saturday 24/31 yet either, as unfortunately a tree decided to damage 33102 so she is awaiting repairs before she can operate again. As the original plan as above involved the use of both 33s each day things may change if repairs can't be completed intime.

Back to 29, she is with us until the end of September just incase N7 repairs overun but she is needed back for an event the owning group are running. Thanks to the guys from the Moors for helping us out at such short notice, and further thanks for the note left inside 29 storage cupboard. We'll be sending her back with some tins of red paint for you to fulfil your promise

 

In fairness I did say "known" based on info garnered on the day as I couldn't honestly recall a visit away in my memory or records hence my comment. Nonetheless for those who missed any visit first time round there is a chance to see it now for the next 6 weeks - so go enjoy !

 

Not aware of it having done Foxfield or Tanfield, but I'm fairly sure it's been to Embsay as well as KESR.

Here's one then - is it the flattest line on which a Lambton tank has ever worked?

 

No problem Fred - and, let's be honest, for people in Staffordshire and the surrounding areas, a visit to Kent didn't exactly help them see her on action!

If I am wrong about Foxfield, this is the furthest west she had ever been. (And my knowledge of Staffordshire geography means I it could be anyway!!)

Nope, never been to Foxfield - yet !.

I have tried in the past and not doubt will try again....

 

Having looked at the Gallery on the Lambton website it appears that 29 has visited 3 locations prior to its recent arrival at Cheddleton - Strathspey Railway and Beamish in 1983 and the Kent & East Sussex in 2006.

I wonder how it will fare on the climb to Ipstones which at 1 in 40 compares well with the 1 in 49 of its "normal" Goathland Bank on the NYMR ? Will anyone be organising a photo charter during its visit ??

Yes, 29 will be hauling the 5 service trains in the day and also the Wine & Dine in the evening leaving Cheddleton @ 19:30 for two trips.

29 is expected to haul all steam services at the CVR until it leaves at the end of September.

 

Great, looks like an early morning start and a long day then, but worth it to see 29 do some real work instead of sitting on coaches all day at grosmont while the bigger engines take all the credits.
