This Autumn Steam Gala promises to be our best yet as we welcome our first ever visitor to the event. Mainline to Industry will be the first time we have welcomed a Jinty to line in Bristish Railways livery. The last visit of the class happened many years ago as the children's favourite steam engine, Thomas.

Now, this BR tank engine is going to break history at Foxfield as we step aside from our exclusive industrial image for the weekend and allow the story of ex-British Railways steam engines being sold into industry which a small number of this class were. A few Jinty locomotives were sold into industry, two receiving the elaborate orange colours of William Pepper & Sons in Wakefield.

More details about the weekend will emerge as we get closer to the arrival the engine ready for this not to be missed event!

I presume you know that 47279 was loaned to Bickershaw Colliery in 1957 and that 47669 was at Walkden in May 1960?

Will you be giving 47406 the 'Llangollen poster paint' treatment?

    Thanks,
    Lewis

An orange Jinty would be unusual but worth making the trip to see.

Yes, we are aware of the various places they ended up. We keep seeing all sorts of Jinty's in different places.
No, we won't be going down the poster paint road...

An Orange Jinty will only happen if there is enough interest. PM me if you are interested...

And the only condition of any historical merit at Foxfield, indeed the hoppers we saved from South Wales can recreate the real thing. We worked everything out over a beer at Workington once, including the position of the oil cans and shunting pole. Happy days.
We have of course already recreated NCB 1310 & 7754 - the last Jinty to visit also served to remind why the Hunslet Austerity design was chosen over the Jinty on account of its abilty to go round bends !.

Or even its inability. Interestingly a certain 0-6-2 down the road was mentioned to me at the weekend however its shear size would make our PWay director ponder...

The hoppers are something we are definitely saving for the charters...

We still have a few places left on our charter with the visiting Jinty on Friday 11th October. See http://foxfieldrailway.co.uk/autumngala/charters.php for more details. We have a maximum limit of 35 places and there not many left now so make sure you get your place on this never to be repeated charter.

The gala is just over a week away now and is looking like a good one!

The Jinty arrives a week tomorrow and will undergo its line test on Thursday in preparation for the photo charter on Friday - remember the charter is one of the very rare occasions where a Jinty will feature in the unique Colliery Foxfield Colliery and probably only time looking like a Williamthorpe engine. We very limited places left on this now so if you are interested then make sure you don't miss out. Details here: http://foxfieldrailway.co.uk/autumngala/charters.php

Highlights throughout the weekend operationally include:

Jinty hauled 10 and 16 wagon freight trains on Foxfield Bank (Banked of course!).
    Full line freight trains.
    Intense timetable.
    Doubled Headed Austerities
Dubs lifting and hauling trains throughout the weekend.
Wolstanton acting as the yard pilot at Foxfield Colliery
    Vintage Bus Display (Sunday Only).
    Classic Car Display (Sunday Only).
    Trade Stands.

Also for those that have not seen the stunning Knotty Coach No.127 then you will be able to see it in the museum throughout the weekend.

    More details here: http://foxfieldrailway.co.uk/autumngala/

Furthermore the Jinty will be in operation over the following week on normal train services between Caverswall Road and Dilhorne Park for anyone that can't make the gala.

So is the orange paint going on the Jinty or not?

Due to insufficient interest the Orange Jinty will NOT be happening.

That's a shame, orange would have made an interesting change from BR black.

Big shame that. Industrial liveries on ex BR locos interest me a lot.

I am surprised of the lack of interest in that - the orange Jinty is far more of a draw than a black one for me I'm afraid

That goes for most of us at Foxfield Anthony, unfortunately the charter demand just didn't happen. However it won't be appearing as itself.
