    Just wondering if anybody has any more information on the Barry line's plans this forthcoming weekend regarding the railmotor?

    There isn't a host of information on the site, it just says 93 will be running, no times, no route no fares. Any information gladly received!

    I am wondering will they be running more though as it's an event and it says there that's a 'normal day' service, certainly hope so!

    On the weekend of 31st August / 1st September we are holding our biggest event of 2013, the ‘BARRY AT WAR WEKEND’ which is centred on our Barry Island Station.

    The rail ‘star of the show’ is the GWR Steam Railmotor, which is making an extended visit the Barry Tourist Railway. The military side will of course include many military vehicles, a spitfire aeroplane, information stands, trader stalls and re-enactors.

    There will be live music being performed in and around the Barry Island Tourist Railway Station at Barry Island throughout the event.

    We are encouraging visitors to dress 1940s style clothes – it’s a lot of fun to get into the spirit of things! Some trains will include youngsters dressed up as 'evacuees'.

    It is planned for the Railmotor to operate all the trains; we feel privileged to be able to operate this historic train on our railway. This fascinating vehicle is effectively the first ever 'railcar' type train and will make an interesting comparison with our Metro-Cammell vintage diesel unit IRIS II. So even if you're not a steam buff, its worth a visit to Barry just to view how powered coaches looked 100 years ago. The Railmotor has an absolutely authentic interior to marvel at; also you can note how the genre has developed into todays units.

    If your like steam as well, you're in for a real treat! Come and see for yourself!

    Getting there:

    By Train
 - go directly to Barry Island Railway Station.

    By Car -
from the M4 Junction 33, follow the signs to Cardiff West / Airport/Barry Island, to Barry Island.

    Parking will be provided at PLYMOUTH ROAD site for a special price of only £2 per day. This is half the price of Council run parking. Follow the WARTIME WEEKEND PARKING signs when you arrive at Barry Island.

    There are two large council run car parks a on Barry Island and on the area encircling the fun fair, both charge over £4. Free on road parking is available around Barry Island, plus outside the station parking spaces are free for a maximum of two hours.

    If you’re planning to stay for the weekend, we highly recommend the new Barry Premier Inn Hotel, located at the Barry Waterfront.
    You can book at the Premier Inn website.

    Don't think they did last year for the badly named "Tall Ships" event in Barry (there was only one "Tall Ship"). There were no signs or timetables at Waterfront either.

    Hi,
    Further to my earlier post and comments on this thread, I should like to make the following additional comments:

    1. We will make additional runs with the Steam Railmotor 'on the day', if we are busy and the demand is there. We will try to ensure that everyone who wants a ride gets one!
    The 11.30, 13.30, 14.30 and 15.30 departures from Barry Island run to the Waterfront. If there is demand we will run a 12.30 railmotor train to Gladstone Bridge Platform and an additional train on both our lines at the end of the day;
    2. Access will be available at the Waterfront site and our sign will be up, as will our timetable;
    3. Our normal fares will be charged as per our website www.barrytouristrailway.co.uk - there will be no excess charge for the Railmotor;
    4. We try to be a 'friendly line' and just want people to come and enjoy the day - so come and sample this superb railmotor train on its debut in South Wales.

    Kind Regards

    John

    Enjoyed my visit to Barry on Saturday and rode both lines with 93
    A visit to the shed was arranged with a commentary. Much appreciated

    Lots going on and the v nearby beach thronged as were the chip shops!

    Many thanks to those who posted info-the only reason I realised 93 was at Barry!
