I normally do the Tuesday of the August bank holiday but my dog has an appointment with the oncologist that day.

Have just been told by someone who got on at York that 45699 has been removed from the train with piston problems

Been a funny old week on the SSE. Great run by Scots Guardsman to start the week tackling (I think) Outwood bank solo for the first time, a great racket climbing up from Wakefield Westgate.

However too strenuous the other side of York and 47760 was quickly back out acting as chaperone so I gave Wednesday a miss. I wasn't going to bother today but had a spare hour at lunchtime so popped down to Bolton Percy just in case the Sun came out and lo and behold Galatea working hard from Church Fenton came bowling round the corner several minutes early, great!

She got held as usual at Colton so time to whip cross country and get a shot at Copmanthorpe but suspiciously suddenly 47760 was doing all the work

and frustratingly instead of a big red steam loco it was a big old duff that came past Milford junction, Galatea having come off at York, lets hope she can squeeze at least one more SSE in the last two weeks but not hopeful.

I don't think you'll get an answer to that matey, it's a Carnforth machine, they don't issue interim reports.
Fair do's to em, it's their business.
It'd be nice to get an official word, but it won't happen. Rumour and guesswork will be flying all over, but no official facts.

Thanks. Guessed that given how much silence over its' return earlier in the year but was wondering if it was a real fault or tactical withdrawal/false excuse to save coal and or reduce fire risk.

Sounds like a recurrence of the piston problem that led to its earlier withdrawal from the roster. I'm guessing that they'll send it back to Carnforth now as they've failed to fix it at York. Expect the 8F on the SSEs next week.

Edit - I see 45699 has already returned to Carnforth.
    Edit - Or has it??

Does anyone have an idea of the likely loco for this week's SSE ? 48151 must be one of the possibilities....

Yes, I believe it will be the 8F this week.

Wasn't out for it this morning but have seen photos and it is 48151 today either on her own or with the diesel at the back, couldn't tell from the photos.

Edit: No diesel on the train!

I've heard that it was 48151 in fine form on its own. it failed at Scarborough so Scots Guardsman is out the rest of the week.

Yes, likewise at South Milford, Normanton, Stourton and Ulleskelf. Running really well at all these locations. If it did fail earlier, it was fixed pretty quickly. I would expect it to be out again tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Yep must have been something easily fixed. Apparently it was sounding really good today.
