A new model company called DJ Models has announced some new models. The models are of:
LNER J94 in O, OO & N gauges.
BR Class 17 in N gauge.
BR Class 23 in N & O gauges.

Limited Edition News - O Gauge and OO Gauge Models from Dapol - a statement
In our determination to provide high-quality detailed models we are constantly reviewing progress of our projects.Sometimes this can reveal that changes need to be made, most of which are invisible to our customers.

After careful consideration we have decided to manage the production of our Adams O2 and LSWR Gate Stock OO Gauge models directly with the factory in China, this being the same factory that built our award-winning OO Gauge Beattie Well Tank.We have asked Dave Jones of DJModels to oversee these projects which will continue the close working relationship we have had since we started commissioning exclusive models.

Work on the OO Gauge Tiger Clay Wagons, Bulleid Diesel locos and D6xx Warships also continues as well as other yet-to-be announced projects, all of which will be produced under a new commercial agreement of which details will be given in due course.

All existing orders for these products will be held and there is no need to contact us about this change unless of course you have changed your phone number, email address or house address and not previously advised us.
A consequence of this decision is that Dapol no longer feel able to progress the O Gauge Beattie Well Tank project and associated clay wagons.We had been working with Dapol to find alternative ways of producing this model, but the pre-orders have been disappointingly low with fewer than 200 orders placed.This is despite a huge discount being offered to encourage and reward customers who placed a pre-order and it being made clear that the pre-order could be cancelled at any time.While we may look at this again in the future for the time being we are going to concentrate on our core OO gauge market.We have already emailed and written to all customers who still held a pre-order for the O Gauge models with details of a special offer to reward their loyalty and patience.

Even after the above changes we had around £275k of special projects remaining with Dapol and it was our intention to continue with these, but Dapol have cancelled all of these with the exception of the OO Gauge models of D1003V Western Ruler and B850ZA and B850ZB Weathered Silver Bullets which are already in production. Our exclusive Class 73s, Bubble Cars, Turbots and Class 22s have all been cancelled and we are obviously very sorry and disappointed that Dapol have chosen to do this.This unexpected act means that we have had to remove these models from our website and have not yet had chance to contact everybody who placed pre-orders but will do so as soon as possible.

We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding for bearing with us and with our new agreement we expect rapid progress to be made on the Gate Stock and O2 models and look forward to sharing positive news about these very soon.

Dapol have recently received notification from Kernow Model Centre that they are cancelling all further work on Kernow owned special commission models, and have chosen to directly control production of these models with their own factory. This announcement affects all the special projects formally managed by Dapol on their behalf :

As this decision was taken without consultation and at short notice, Dapol are unable to answer further questions or comment on this matter.

Due to KMRC ‘s implied intention to establish themselves as a manufacturer, Dapol feel that to continue to offer KMRC first choice of special editions from their range would be unfair to our other dealers, and ultimately dis-advantageous to our customers. We have therefore taken the decision to withdraw this privilege from KMRC; instead, making special editions of these Dapol ‘mainstream’ products available to all dealers and modelers.. As these models will become part of our main range there will be no associated premium pricing, which is usually associated with special editions.
We will update our website when the range of weathered models has been finalised.

It would seem the relationship hasn't been best for some time, model rail's USA tank was moved from Dapol (mre's models being kernow in another guise).

Looking on Bachmann web site I see the pre production models of unrebuilt merchant navy locos in N gauge have arrived at Bachmann HQ. With any luck Bachmann will bring out a oo gauge unrebuilt merchant navy in the near future.

Would prefer Hornby to do the unrebuilt MN to be honest, as the rebuilt WC really is the dogs and they have both the rebuilt MN and the original WC.

Either way, i'd put my house on seeing one in the next ten years from either Hornby or Bachmann...

Surely there must be a bigger market in oo gauge than in n gauge. Why only make an n gauge version for? It's only a matter of up scaling the n gauge model in to oo gauge.

No it isn't.
Something's don't scale...
Like metal thickness, plastic density, motor fittings (and the motor itself), gearing ratios, couplings, print process and resolution even screw size and strength of the styrene foam lining the box it comes with will need to be determined..

Case in point, try weighing comparable n and oo gauge models of the same class... It ain't half of the other !

The only thing in common is the cad drawing generated from the original source to begin with...before it's scaled to respective size to begin the design process.

I certainly wouldn't start by doubling up my n gauge model...

Don't forget Bachmanns start point for the unrebuilt MN will be the farish model toolings they inherited, supplemented by pictures and/or any drawings are available... You may get away with quite a bit in 'n' gauge put might not pass muster in oo...they don't have anything as a reference in oo, so it would be a start from scratch

Which is probably why Hornby haven't yet taken up the gauntlet in OO. There are also probably too many detail differences within the class; remember about ten of the class had a horizontal strengthening rib when they were given 'limpet board' casing to save on steel sheeting. There were also subtle differences around the smoke deflectors, the buffer beams, tenders, cabs, safety valves... And that is before going down the road of intitial batch 'widow's peak' or the later cowling. The only series that can really be viewed as 'standard' is the last batch of ten.
