    Hi Guys.

I wonder if anyone can help. I am interested to find out what is left of the last ten Barry locos, I think some of them have ended up as donor locos and I was wondering what is left of these locos that did become donor locos.

lynbarn: Rather than spend time repeating all the info, just type "Barry ten" into Google or whatever search engine you use, and Wikipedia has what looks like an accurate list of the ten engines, starting in ascending order with 2861, and ending with 92245, and their current situation, bearing in mind that parts from some have gone to more than one new-build or conversion project.

    46118

    Edit: For the record, 2861, 4115, 5227, 5538, 5539, 7927, 44901, 48518, 80150, and 92245.

    If it helps...

The only 2 undergoing restoration are 5538 and 5539. 80150, 6686 are possible overhaul candidates.
44901 has no boiler, and 92245 is a candidate for partial scrapping to make an "engine being scrapped" art exhibit.

The rest are providing beans, bolts and boilers to other projects.
7927, 48518 have had their parts dismembered, dismantled and scattered as spare parts to the 4 winds and are unlikely ever to work or even be recognised as an engine again.

Though on the positive, their demise may some day make it possible to see a County, Grange, 47xx, Patriot. Also 48518 and 44901 makes Riley's locos more reliable and reduces the cost of another 8f running one day.

Tom: A partial answer, others will no doubt correct/add info.

47xx project has front end structure including extension frames and I think wheelsets from 4115. 5227 provided axleboxes, horns and the required "fourth axle". 2861 cylinder block and saddle.
1014 County project has/will have modified boiler from 48518, and utilises the frames from 7927, with some modification.
I think 48518 has yielded a cylinder block for Ian Riley, presumably for one of his fives? or has it gone to another 8F? 48518 pony truck to Patriot?

That leaves me wondering where the boiler from 7927 has gone, Betton Grange possibly?

Finally...I think the boiler from 4115 is the one being worked on at LNWR Crewe for Pete Waterman's 6634, currently at the SVR with the bottom end done, and awaiting a boiler, 6634's original unit being too shot to repair.

44901 WILL be restored. The boiler is coming back from turkey to make this happen. This came from Mike Hoskin's mouth when I asked him at the gwsr gala in may. So not all doom and gloom.

7927's boiler has gone to the Betton Grange project. IIRC the boiler from 4115 has gone to Crewe for Pete Waterman's 66xx. Isn't some of 48518's`brake gear going on the Patriot? I'm sure no re-useable parts will be wasted! Ray.

48518s boiler to county, wheels to 8624 society, cylinders to Rileys. Brake gear to patriot, other parts were offered to Greg wilson for his 8F but not sure if he bought them as he was busy doing 6046 at the time.

Not strictly part of the original question, but for competeness, I think the coupled wheels under "BettonGrange" are a spare set borrowed from the SVR who purchased them from Barry ( the Woodhams "Barry", not the current place) as spares when 4156 was cut at Barry in 1980.

Close..... but they were going under betton grange until they were found to have flaws meaning they couldnt go mainline. So they are now going under 5199 which has done a swap as its wheels can go.mainline.

Does anyone know for certain where the wheels for the 8f went..
on this forum in various threads Ive heard to 48151 at WCRC, 48773 (as it needs new tires) and 48624.

wasnt the cab of 48518 offered for sale recently ? or did it end up binned ?

Gav106: Just out of interest did Mr Hoskin say "when" the 44901 group's Turkish 8F boiler might appear in the UK? Is it still a fact that the said unit will have a steel inner firebox manufactured in Turkey in the past, or did we actually export some "MOD" 8F's with a steel firebox?

    Thanks

It's nearly 3 years since talk of the 8f coming from Turkey for spares went round.
It took a similar amount of time for the last pair to come back.

92245's boiler is being stored outside the locoshed at Rowsley, quite close to its fellow S&D mate 44422 in fact.

I hope 92245's boiler is not going to suffer the same fate as the sectioned "Ellerman Line" at the NRM. One is quite enough thankyou, and the Heritage movement is then denied a spare boiler unit for one of the restored 9F's.
