The Llangollen railway steam gala is fast approaching, guest engine this year will be 7812 Erlestoke Manor running alongside the Llangollen homefleet of 7822 'Foxcote Manor', Black 5 44806, GWR 3802, BR Standard 80072. Hopefully a public timetable will appear on the Llangollen Railway website.

On Friday 7812, 7822, 3802 & 80072 will be working, 9 departures off Llangollen starting at 10am, the last being 1645. Currently the manors doublehead the 10am and 15:50 departure from Llangollen. 3 trains during the day will venture down the extension. Last llan dep is 1645 last train from Carrog 1755 arriving back to Llangollen at 1826.

On Saturday & Sunday 44806 joins the mix and there are 10 departures off Llangollen. The trains again start at 10am with a L/E move prior to this departure. The 10am will see both manors doubleheading what is expected to be a 9/10coach train non-stop to the extension. The manors then stay together for the 1255 Llangollen departure but on a lighter load. Various trains through the day venture onto the extension. The last departure off Llangollen is 1645, last departure from Carrog is 1750 arriving back to Llangollen at 1819hrs.

Its been quite a while since the dee valley has echoed to double headed manors, the last time being the late very late 80's/very early 90's when we had 7828 Odney Manor. So if you fancy hearing the sound of two manors working up the 1in80 Berwyn bank and the sound reverberating off the Berywn mountains once again, Llangollen Railway is the place to be 30th August-1st September.

Pricing details can be found on the Llangollen railway website: http://www.llangollen-railway.co.uk/event.php?id=85

Is there any timetable this time? Unfortunately I can't make the event, but a public, non diagrammed, timetable should be available really, it's good of you to post the first and last trains however.

The WTT has only just been emailed out to the working volunteers tonight so I'd expect a public t/t to be available in the next day or so on the website. They did release one for the 60s weekend

Can't make this either unfortunately, though Llangollen is a line I'm keen to tick off next year. Apologies for being slightly out of touch and straying from topic, but are there many plans for more of the week-long galas (Steel, Steam etc)? Had a feeling they were every other year so if they were continuing, the next was due in 2014.

I am sure it was posted on Natpres that it would be 2015 now, rather than 2014.

Went up to Carrog behind Foxcote Manor on a service train yesterday - noticed that the field at Garth-y-Dwr where you have previously been able to park for a small fee now appears to have sets of 'temporary' white fencing holding horses, does anyone know whether their policy of allowing people into the field at Galas has changed. Remember last time l was there, the adjoining cottages were for sale (perhaps also with the field) so that may be the reason for the change. Would appreciate any info as it will aid my decision whether to go to Llangollen or follow the CME next Saturday.

Assume the other field before the farm is still 'out of bounds' - was told by a couple of guys at the ELR recently that they were unceremoniously and with very few words 'asked' to leave by the farmer recently!!

At the moment i'm afraid not. Best i can suggest is not to go in any of the fields round garth-y-dwr without the land owners permission. If anyonethe from the railway does reply tomorrow i'll post an official response on here.

There are bridle paths / footpaths that run along the valley; grab an OS map and use them!

Fantastic photo there, reminds me of the area around Cemaes Road where the Dovey Valley widens out, with the two Manors heading to Aberystwyth on a summer extra!
