Waste of time no guest engines, Nymr doesn't compete anymore on the gala scene anymore sadly

Can't see them reacting well to this kind of behavior when they've finally given out diagrams for free? I'm however glad they've posted the info in advance that 29'll be only running on freights, so i've no need to go either! :)

Good to see NYMR putting loco diagrams free to download.
WSR and particularly SVR please note.

Another vote of thanks to the Moors for putting the info out for free. Unfortunately I'm another who was only really going for 29, but you can't please all the people all of the time, far better to know now!

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
A good move not to charge for the timetable engine Rotas, thanks.
The following weekend is another mini type gala with the A1 Tornado in Blue together with A4 pacific Sir Nigel Gresley also of course in Blue. Not something you see everyday.
With ever increasing costs I am sure the days of multiple engines at all Galas will become less, the costs often outweigh the income, and on the NYMR the summer timetable often has more trains running with 4/5 steam locos as well as a Diesel, than many heritage lines do at Galas.
Photographers often don't pay to use the railway, just taking photos, although many do so, cannot always have loads of engines due to gradients and length of line means many smaller engines cannot be used.

Sorry but ask any enthusiast, photographer etc and you will find that a Gala is supposed to be a special event. This has to include guest engines as a draw . No guest engines ordinary weekend which is what you have to look forward to this weekend My NYMR Galas go back many many years and this has to be the worst . If anyone can think of a Gala lineup that only included engines that run on the line all season let me know The diesel gala was very different wasnt it

The NYMR was one of the earliest to run galas and back then it simply meant running everything that could run. In a sense, that is what is happening this weekend and for some cheap main line steam on the Battersby run will be an added lure. In fact, a loco that hasn't run on the line all year will be out (92214) and No.29 is not seen that often, so there will be some rarity value. For those who only visits for Galas, 6046 is there as well.

    45428 not running today.
Freights cancelled today I am told as 29 was on the ex Grosmont at 11.30 banked/propelled by a type 2 diesel.

Its not behavior Its my opinion and why shouldnt they give diagrams for free its not a special weekend Where are the essential part of a Gala the guest engines. They were easy to spot at the diesel gala

Would be nice to see 29 on 4 or 5 coaches, She is upto it looking at here performance at churnet and shouldn't need the diesel eitha, maybe one day she will be given a chance, don't see the need for every train to have 7 carrieges when often they are not full, waist of coal for a start.

You are so right. I have had some cracking runs with 29 on 4 and 5 coach trains. During its last running period it did do a Grosmont to Goathland shuttle with 4 coaches on one of the galas. So far since its recent overhaul they don't seem to know what to do with it. One idea was to use it on a Sunday in the DMU slot as the DMU is broken down but this only happened once I believe and the day was bedeviled with poor coal affecting the steam locos. I frequently see engines on their knees at the NYMR with sparsely occupied seven coach trains, 29 could see a lot more use than it gets. When it is out it's normally pushed about by a diesel.

Completely agree. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see it do a freight now and then, but next to no passenger turns all weekend seems a bit ott!

Somewhat short notice I realise, but I understand from "our reporter at the scene" that No. 29 and Class 24 out again at the moment vice 6046 - should just have left Pickering.

Sorry to have to inform you but I attended yesterday and the whole place was heaving, all trains and platforms packed with happy smiling faces (the weather may have played its part!). The only thing missing may have been a few photters but there were still plenty about. Taking into consideration the fact that the railway did not have to pay a fortune in hire fees and transportation costs , I should think the railway is extremely satisfied with the weekend.

Please dont be sorry you have a right to your opinion as I have mine. My point is Galas are special events in the calender therefore need different engines etc
Have a look at whats coming up at KWVR, WSR to name just two railways who have made an attempt to run a Gala

I think that the message that has come across is that the NYMR doesn't necessarily need enthusiasts to attend for its galas to be successful. Good weather obviously helps, but if the general public sees that there are going to be as many engines as possible out plus some added attractions then they will come. Enthusiasts are notoriously fickle, so perhaps their attendance should be regarded as a bonus rather than the main aim. My personal opinion is that an additional engine was needed, because with only six on hand and the high probability that one would fail at some point left too few to really call the event a gala, but I'd have looked for something interesting but inexpensive - I'd like to see Twizzell (s it currently operative?) or an Austerity to double head with 29 rather than have to use a diesel with it and that should have been an affordable option - offer a return visit by 29 next year perhaps. I wonder if the Lakeside might consider that for Victor next year?
