Kent & East Sussex Railway: Tenterden - Headcorn section

本贴由 DisusedBranch2013-09-27 发布. 版块名称: Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK

Just to be clear from the off, I am NOT proposing a madcap pie-in-the-sky scheme to see if people would like to see this section restored!

However, I am interested if anybody knows how intact the trackbed is on this stretch and where it has been built over, missing bridges, etc?

I know that a stretch through St Michaels has been turned into a tarmacked footpath, the tunnel is in somebody's garden, the three intermediate stations north of St Michaels are all in private ownership (Frittenden Road long burned down), the trackbed is built on just south of Headcorn and the freight loop at Headcorn station destroyed the KESR platform.

But apart from that little lot, what else? Has Orchard Road in St Michaels destroyed the trackbed?

    Just interested, that's all :)

No I do not currently volunteer
You can still trace the trackbed from Biddenden across a couple of country lanes trackbed has been built on at Woodlands caravan park.
The site of Biddenden Station site can still be seen from the main road as well as the platforms the original Station was still there up to 5 years ago but has now been replaced by a brick dwelling. At a lane opposite the road to Headcorn airfield the trackbed can be walked to virtually Headcorn Station but watch where you tread as it"s a favorite walk for dog walkers.

Parts of Headcorn K&ESR platform remain in but you may need a machete to view them.
