I won't try to compete with Penny Steam - a good variety of intersting shots including one from Cherry Eye bridge which would not have been possible until we took the trees down.

Can tell summer is over. CVR Santa & Steam leaflet is now out, listing dates of all Santa Specials and Xmas Dining trains.

Ghost Train details now available for Saturday 26th October. This year the event is being advertised as RIDE THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE DEAD.

2-train service, 1x steam / 1x diesel. Departure times as follow, though I need to wait for WTT to say which is which;
Chedd dep: 1800 / 1847 / 1934 / 2021 / 2108
Frog dep: 1758 / 1845 / 1932 / 2019 / 2106

Took a trip up to Froghall last weekend to see the N7 running and saw this lot in action:

Anyone know what they were up to? Are there evil spirits at Froghall that need to be cleared?

We had a visitation from a group of Morris dancers. They arrived at Cheddleton and spent the day dancing around the railway much to the amusement of everyone.

 

Must of got their dates wrong, Folk Fest isn't for another fortnight. Speaking of that, due to the ongoing work at Ipstones trains will be terminating at Bridge 20 which is roughly halfway between Threshing Barn & Ipstones. These are the last trains up Cauldon of 2013 (excluding Mince Pie) and will feature the N7 TnT with one of our 33s.

Bit of an update for those interested.

This coming SUNDAY 6th of October sees our last main running day of the year, and features our monthly Cauldon Lowe Running. N7/33 will Top & Tail the Cauldon train, which will be terminating at Bridge 20 due to the ongoing track renewals at Ipstones. The 104 DMU will perform 3 round trips on the CVR. The date also falls on the same day as the Churnet Valley Folk Festival, plus a Classic Car Display at Froghall Station.

Also of news is Leek Brook Junction webcams have all been commissioned, and so you can now watch trains heading to Cauldon and Endon (when we finally get permission).

In the sheds the overhaul of TkH 2944 continues, photo showing the loco last Wednesday Night at around 9pm with Pistons fitted, Slide Bars fitted, Loco re-wheeled and Bunker put in position for further sizing up. All fitted in a little over a week, so god knows where they are upto this week. It is hoped to have the boiler undergo a steam test before Christmas, with a return to service first half of next year (there is an outside chance of her making the Steam Gala).


Talking of Steam Gala, get the dates 22/23 February 2014 into your diary. So far we can only confirm 6046 attendance but Chris M is currently organising agreements for other locos. This event should see the opening of Ipstones Station for the first time since 30th September 1935, which is where trains will be terminating due to ongoing renewal work on the Cauldon branch. The event will feature a 3-train timetable, which will be released closer to the actual event itself.

Other than that, after Sunday our next event is Ghost Train 26th October, with a Halloween Diner 31st and we will then be shut until December when Santa Specials start again. After Xmas we have a weekend of Cauldon/Ipstones service and then that will be it for 2013 at CVR.​

Hopefully we'll see some of you at our remaining events, I can thoroughly recommend the Ghost Train event myself having attended last year and Cauldon services are always worth a day out ​

The weather looks better in your shot than it has been for a few weeks

 

Halloween Dining Train now cancelled due to low bookings.

Railway currently being prepared for Ghost Train services, with bits/pieces arriving for the various displays.

Chedd Loco Shed is receiving an overdue revamp, with an additional workshop being built and some of the stored Swindon Machinery being brought into use.

2944 has been put back together whilst this occurs, and is now viewable in her final cut down down version. Once the shed revamp complete she will return inside for restoration to continue. Hopefully have some photos come the weekend.

Bright sunny day out today for 8 of the PW team. Replacing pads and tightening screws in concrete sleepers half mile south of Ched. The sideshow was a pheasant shoot adjacent to where we were working with a few people ducking to miss birds crashing to the ground. Dog on duty again today but didn't get any pheasants.
