    Well, I can now confirm that what Alberta said (about 70000 failing its FTR) IS TRUE!!

    Below is the link to my mates video of the return ECS working, and the first comment (at the mo) comes from a member of the support crew...............................

    If I had been booked on this train I would have accepted the fact that Britannia had failed it's FTR exam (these things happen) but the excuse given that the stock had been trapped by an engineering possession would have made me very angry indeed. <BJ>

    We are assuming that the two things are linked . They may not be . The 33 may have been the rostered motive power after 70000's failure , and legitimately moved the stock ready only to fall foul of a the blockade

    Agree with Sidmouth - no-one knows what alternative traction arrangements were in hand to cover the failure of 70000 and after the decision made at 01:00 to cancel the train there was no need to employ them. So - as Sidmouth states - there is no connection between the 2 events. A Red Herring methinks ?

    There was a light engine movement in RTT from Hanwell Bridge Loop to Action Lane shortly after the ECS from the RTC trip on Saturday was due to return. I'm guessing this may have been the diezsel off the RTC trip moving to Action Lane ready for the SD tour on Sunday (WCR diesel trains are usually top-and-tailed and I think it's unlikely that they would have allowed the 33 to take the train on it's own). This LE movement was cancelled. So my guess is that 70000 had indeed failed and the SD train was to have been worked by the diesel off the RTC trip (possibly with the 33 on the rear), but then the engineering block was discovered and so there was no need to send the second diesel to Action Lane. If my guess is true, some potential passengers may regard the block as a blessing in disguise as they will presumably now receive a full refund (hopefuly at Network Rail's, rather than SD's, expense), whereas if the tour had run diesel-hauled SD would have only offered a partial refund as per their terms and conditions.

    Whilst at Norwich the driver of the diesel on the rear of the Wandering 1500 tour (47 245) received a message from WCR control that Britannia had failed its FTR at Southall and
    47 245 had now to be detached from the Wandering 1500 ECS at Hanwell Bridge, instead of going back with the stock to Southall and run to Acton Lane to link up with the Sundays Luncheon Special ECS. The 33 was going to be used to drag the ECS into Paddington and 47 245 was going to take the train to Stratford. So remarkably it seems there were two distinct incidents that affected this rain.

    ........only in the minds of some folk though. Yes, there was sadness about 70000 at Norwich. Given the people who did the repairs, it would be unusual for anything related to that work to be the problem. So, perhaps there is a positive outcome. OK - this will have been a disaster for those who wanted a day in Stratford, steam or otherwise, and there is of course all the wasted food etc. But at least, and I presume that this will happen, NR will meet the cost of their planning error and neither SD nor passengers will be out of pocket. Without wishing to re-open old wounds, a day out with diesel plus a £10 voucher off another trip is not everyone's ideal Sunday. And on this occasion the engineering block does save the blushes slightly of Locomotive Services Ltd.
